lower than other standard sized off-road bikes. With ultra-soft suspension and a lot of squish, the seat height drops even more when sitting on the bike. The XTrainer uses the same wheels as a 300 RR but the spokes are thinner to save weight. The swingarm is also identical to that on the full size 300 RR, but the suspension is much different. Olle, a Spanish company, makes the shock and fork. Designed for easy service, the 43mm fork houses a spring in only the right leg with a preload adjustment in the fork cap. Adjustment to rebound lives on the left fork cap. There is no compression damping adjustment. The Olle rear shock features compression and rebound adjustments, as well as preload adjustment. Many of the features and components from the full sized Beta enduro bikes are on the XTrainer, like the brakes, quick release seat, easy access air filter, enduro computer and footpegs. Much to our surprise the gas tank holds 8 and a half litres, enough for a decent trail ride, especially down in the low rpms the XTrainer loves to be ridden. Everything else on the bike is top drawer, like the finish and the components, including the brakes and suspension. Talking of suspension this bike is set up for riding trails and paths, not flying over triple jumps fast terrain, the XTrainer is excellent on the very technical sections because of the extremely user friendly motor. Another great feature of this bike is that all the vulnerable bits are protected by strong aluminium or quality plastic guards… the endless quest for light-weight doesn’t really apply to this bike, although it is by no means heavy. Riding it is really fun, it is just such a friendly machine. Hustling along a footpath or chugging up a rocky mountainside is just so easy. One characteristic it does have is that it earns the name “Trainer” when it comes to the use of body weight distribution by the rider. Its a 300, so the very strong and smooth torque and the effortless way it will pull up steep slopes or over big rocks means you have to be careful to keep your weight forward to avoid tipping over backwards! We gassed it a bit hard a few times and nearly got the photo of the day...The user friendly back brake helps keep this under control very nicely. The two stroke engine really is a gem… it just burbles along… The torque of the engine is so smooth and controllable that wheelspin can be virtually eliminated. There is no need to rev the engine and slip the clutch to get forward momentum, just feed the hydraulic clutch out near engine idle without fear of stalling.
