Question 1: I support the city’s
efforts in assisting potential
homeowner’s with financing and
enabling existing homeowner’s
to undertake improvement
projects. Neighborhoods are
the lifeblood of a city. We need
to encourage owner-occupied
housing and we need to continue
to market the city and these
programs as viable options.
Financing these programs
will require coordination
and cooperation between city
government, our financial
institutions, and real estate
professionals.
Question 2: I support the
existing efforts to ensure the city
is properly and equitably funded
by all sources. Anything that
I can do to assist in that effort
would be a welcome challenge.
Education: The adults of
tomorrow are being raised today.
Whether it is the school system
providing the education or kids
being home schooled, teachers,
parents, neighbors, society all
play their part in the character
of the adults running things
tomorrow. I think all our roles
are essential in that process.
Occupation: Server
Qualifications for Office: I'm
a curious person and have an
innate talent at identifying
problems and coming up with
solutions to solve them. I care
deeply about the Constitution,
the law, and protecting citizen's
rights. I have an unshakable
code of ethics, strong principals
and deep convictions about
doing the right thing.
Question 1: I believe our
neighborhood's character and
liberties have been cut into by
authoritarian leaders pushing a
personal aesthetic, inorganic to
Whitehall, instead of focusing
in on its #1 problem, crime. In
this, Whitehall has become a
city of 'no'; no to experimental
innovation, artistic freedom,
creativity, individual liberty and
so, has developed simmering
anger, banality and a universal
sameness that doesn't encourage
vibrancy or interest apart from
every other community. Outside
of criminality, I believe bringing
out the best of human nature
and that spirit is done by saying
'yes' more often.
Question 2: I believe in
bare bones government. The
more services and aid to the
community that's wanted or
needed requires more funds,
then one would have to raise
taxes or entreat more business.
You cannot have city services or
aid to the community without
them. Past that, one must
prioritize the expenditures
based on the city's priorities.
If crime is #1, then you must
hire extra police to address that
problem adequately. If there are
extraneous positions not vital to
the top priorities then you must
cut those to serve the #1. When
you get #1 under control, THEN,
you can focus on less pressing
matters.
regarding alcohol and substance
abuse.
Question 1: Whitehall is one
of the most dangerous cities in
Ohio. Like other communities,
we are facing an epidemic of
heroin trafficking and opioid
abuse. We've also had a graduate
of our high school indicted
for terrorism. Is our city
government properly organized
to combat these threats? The
answer is "no". Safety forces are
stretched too thin. Response
times are not quick enough. A
large part of the problem rests
with so much money being spent
on city administration. We need
to streamline our administration
and eliminate political positions.
Question 2: Whitehall doesn't
have a revenue problem -
Whitehall has a spending
problem. We need to eliminate
administrative waste by
eliminating positions in city
hall and re-directing the funds
to better street lighting and
increased funding for our first
responders (police and EMS).
Question 2: Worthington has
a stable revenue stream coming
from the municipal income
tax. The city currently has an
approximately $35 million
annual budget for services,
operations and improvements.
During my time on Council,
we have been able to increase
our savings and our 'rainy day
this effort so we do not have to
increase any taxes.
Qualifications for Office:
35 years as community
resident; graduate Leadership
Worthington Area Chamber
Worthington Presbyterian
Church
Question 1: City government
must strive to protect and
preserve the vibrant, historic,
family-centered neighborhoods
that are Worthington.
Development must continue,
but it can happen within the
solid planning and zoning codes
that have always served the city
well. The "new urban" type of
development that is becoming
popular in other communities
does not belong in Worthington.
Such trendy developments
feature high-density apartments
and little green space and would
place undue burden on traffic
and schools. Worthington
residents have spoken. It is
council's job to represent the
voice of the residents.
Question 2: After several years
of struggling as businesses
moved out of Worthington
-- leaving behind empty
office buildings, storefronts,
warehouses--the city has
experienced some comeback in
recent years. The comeback is
at least in part due to the city's
economic development efforts,
which included streamlining
the process of obtaining needed
permits and approvals; making
available economic incentives
needed to compete with other
central Ohio communities;
and hiring an economic
development manager. Without
that continued success, the city
would have to raise taxes or cut
some of its valued services.
Question 1: Worthington
residents deserve leadership
that places their expectations
first. Cooperation between
residents, their representative
groups, Council, and city
staff must replace the current
air of distrust. This can be
accomplished through full
disclosure of staff’s financial
analysis of development
opportunities, which will allow
meaningful oversight and
comment from citizens. Further,
it will be my policy to look for
ways to incorporate residents’
wishes as we grow, with a
constant eye on preserving
those qualities that caused us
to choose Worthington as our
home, rather than diluting them.
Question 2: Sound Financial
Policy in the context of
Worthington today is a function
of: 1.Attracting a diverse range
of business types to ensure long
term financial stability. 2.Proper
oversight of procurement
and vendor contracting to
prevent city losses (like the
recent Rec Center settlement)
3.Maintaining the value of
our community that has been
built through the decades by
protecting home values, city
services and school systems.
Selecting the right projects with
quality developers at the optimal
time, and ending unnecessary
concessions to developers are
important keys to each of these
principles.
Women’s Club. Attorney
practicing probate, adoption,
residential real estate law.
Question 1: Worthington has
many unique neighborhoods,
each with their own culture
& character. The City should
continue to hold regular
neighborhood forums, ensure
our neighborhoods are safe &
attractive, continue to provide
comprehensive city services,
preserve our historic culture, &
be inviting to new neighbors.
I believe new development
should include empty nester
housing to allow those who
want to downsize to be able
to sell their homes to young
families & continue to live in
Worthington. The City should
encourage creation of businesses
that provide services to our
neighborhood residents.
Question 2: For 20 years, the
financial status of Worthington
has significantly fluctuated.
Following the recession, voters
approved an income tax increase
and the City designed new
policies. Worthington is now
on solid financial grounds with
a AAA bond rating restored, a
healthy reserve fund, and no
longer has deficit spending.
The key to our financial future
is retention and expansion
of business because 75% of
Worthington’s current operating
budget is income tax. Proposed
change in the City’s charter
could curtail the city’s economic
vitality and result in less services
or higher resident charges.
