Dr T. R. Thorn named Draft Doctor.<br />
Jeffco Unit of Colo National Guard to be enlarged under Defense Act. allotted<br />
12 more men - 168th Field Artillery. It will be converted to a regiment of<br />
155 millimeter guns and field rifles and diesel tractors are to be standard equipment.<br />
It will be inducted into Federal Service in January and sent to Tennessee<br />
for a year's training. Men of draft age may volunteer to enlist in this organi-<br />
at ion.<br />

Rev. Cole died, pastor of Baptist Church 10 years.<br />
Arvada dolled up for Xmas, decorated lampposts and tree at Wadsworth<br />
and Grandview (where the f lagpole used to be). JC put up evergreen wreaths<br />
and roping and the lights in the lamp were dipped in Xmas colors.<br />
Permanent board for library is organized: W. E. Callaham, Capt Mark<br />
Rhoads, Glenn Jackson, Mrs Richard Russell, and Mrs J. Phill Wainer. Yearly<br />
contract with Denver Public Library f or 200 books a month - 10c per book.<br />
All books free to public except rental shelf of the newest fiction and non-fiction.<br />

Eleanor Cochran died. Lived in Arvada from 1908 to 1926.<br />
Frank Churches of Broomfield killed when truck hit by C E S passenger<br />
train near Semper. Son of Henry Church and lived on Church's Ranch since<br />
his birth 78 years ago.<br />
Janet Chinn killed in coast auto wreck, covered by icy roads. She was<br />
not injured but died of heart failure and shocid. She'd been a resident of Arvada<br />
20 years and taught in the Arvada schools for 15 years.<br />
December 26<br />
Florence Sharp died. Moved to Arvada as bride of Clarence Sharp in<br />
December of 1896. Engaged in turkey raising for 30 years.<br />
Ammunition plant may be located in County at Hayden Ranch a few miles<br />
southeast of Golden between Colfax EY Alameda. Will be operated by Remington<br />
Arms Co.
