W. G. Boyd, father of Ray J. Boyd, died. He wasn't from Arvada, but
was a pioneer settler in the Big Thompson Canyon - 1873. His father and an
uncle created Boyd Lakes near Loveland. In 1879, he trailed cattle from
Wyoming and Montana to New Mexico during a drouth. For a number of years,
he was editor of papers in Grand Junction & Loveland. (Interesting - huh,
Marcettal)
March 23
Town of Arvada purchased a new street sweeper for the paved streets of
town. "There have been many hours of service trying to get the machine to
do its stuff." Mounted on front of one of the trucks.
Arvada horseshoe courts will open April 2 at Mcllvoy Park. E. J. Molby,
president of the local club.
Pat's tire shop moved to 145 Wadsworth. No new innovations - "too derned
busy taking care of customers."
March 30
Louis Davis, Colo State Tntomologist to accept a position with Federal
Bureau of Entomology and Plant Quarantine, in grasshopper control.
1,150 boys will be enrolled in CCC, 39 from Jeff. Co. Pays dependents
11111 about $850 per month. Must be 17 - 23, unmarried, U. S. citizen and unemployed.
April 6
Safeway to build new building. Drive-in market at Wadswoth e Church and
has purchased the Odd Fellows lot at Wads & Church and 1st & Church„ Orville
Beghtol who had a filling station on Wadsworth & Church will work for Pat's
Tire Shop.
April 13
Miss Laurence taken to Boulder Sanatorium.
Electric Company lowers rate for local consumers. Domestic - first 40
kwh - 6c per month; next 70 kwh - all extra kwh 2 1/4 - minimum charge
$1.00.
April 20
Ray Goedert to open new hardware store in Davis Building at 318 Wadsworth,
The Arvada Florist - 3 hybrid tea bush and climbing roses for $1.00; 4#
Kentucky Blue Grass, $1.00.
