local hockey stalwart Wren Blair
led another change in ownership
and a change in fortunes.
The team rocketed from last
place as The Raiders to second place
as The Kingston Frontenacs and
never looked back. While the team’s
on-ice achievements have been up
and down in the years since, the
connection to the community was
reignited as The Frontenacs and
has continued to grow under the
current ownership group led by the
Springer family.
In 2008 the team moved from the
aging Kingston Memorial Centre to
their current home in the Rogers
K-Rock Centre at 1 The Tragically
Hip Way. With local boy and NHL
Hall of Famer Doug Gilmour at the
helm and second-year coach Paul
McFarland behind the bench, the
team is looking good as they make
their way through the 2015-2016
season.
Returning stars like NHL first
round pick Lawson Crouse, 2014
OHL Goaltender of the year Lucas
Peressini, team captain Roland
McKeweon, sniper Spencer Watson
and Juho Lamikko will compliment
newcomers like Robbie Burt, Ryan
Cranford and Russian import
Konstantin Chernyuk. This solid
line-up is off to a promising start and
has the potential to do some damage
in the competitive East Division of
the OHL’s Eastern Conference.
40 years after the Kingston
Canadians took Mark Napier’s
Marlboroughs to a deciding game,
this squad of youngsters hopes to
create new and lasting memories for
a city that clearly has a strong, longstanding
and well-deserved history
of junior hockey excellence. KF
