was injured and Chernyuk received
a rousing ovation from the crowd
and a generous greeting from his
teammates when he returned to the
bench five minutes later.
Although Chernyuk wasn’t
chosen based solely on his size or
his physical game Coach McFarland
sees tremendous all around potential
for his rookie blueliner. “Like any
young guy he becomes more and
more comfortable with all parts of
the game the more he plays,” said
McFarland. “Konstantin will be a
guy who can contribute including the
physical game but we’re impressed
that he’s come in and gotten better
each and every day. Over time you’re
going to see there’s a big upside to
his offensive game.”
While Keily and the management
team are happy with Chernyuk’s
continued improvement, they are
also focused on Konstantin as he
transitions to life as a teenager in
Canada. “It’s a new league it’s a new
county a new everything,” said Keily.
“We’re committed to being there for
him and supporting him – like we are
for all our new and returning players.
He’s got a bright future if he can keep
trending in a positive direction.“
