www.reidsdairy.com • Belleville / Kingston After being drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs and winning a Memorial Cup with the Oshawa Generals last season, the future is bright for defenceman Stephen Desrocher. After being acquired in an early-season trade, Desrocher is leaving his mark on the Frontenacs blue line. We had a chance to sit down with him recently for a one-onone. GameDay: You were part of the 2015 Memorial Cup-winning Oshawa Generals. First off, congratulations. Stephen Desrocher: Thank you very much. GD: Can you share with us that final game, hoisting the Memorial Cup? SD: It’s almost indescribable. It’s probably the best feeling in my life, winning the (Memorial) Cup with my team. We came a long way from the start of the year and all of our hard work paid off. To hold that cup, over our heads with my teammates is an unbelievable feeling I will never forget and I hope we can do it here in Kingston. GD: You’ve played your entire OHL career in a Generals jersey. It’s been an impressive career–33 points last season and 11 points in just 17 games with the Generals this season. What was it like to hear there was an opportunity for you to join a new team in the same division? SD: It was a big shock for me at first. I didn’t expect to be traded the day I was traded, but when I found out it was Kingston I was very happy. Kingston is a great city, this is a great team here with a great coaching staff and great players. The opportunity for me here is unbelievable and I’m glad it was Kingston over any other team in the league. GD: You jumped right into the Frontenacs lineup, playing the day after you were traded. What was the biggest hurdle in not getting a chance to practice with the team before playing with them? SD: There are different things in the system that I still have to get used to, but it wasn’t too hard since Kingston plays a pretty similar system to the way we played in Oshawa, so it wasn’t too much of a jump, but there are still things even now that I’m still learning. GD: As things settle in with Kingston, more games played, more practices with the team, are you feeling more at home as a Frontenac? SD: Yes, of course. Every day I get to know the guys a bit better, I get to know the coaches a bit better, my billets, everyone. My roomate Juho (Lammikko) is a great guy who has welcomed me and Roland McKeown is one of my best friends from Toronto, so it’s been an easy transition for me.
