SESSION THREE:
PLEASURE
What brings you the most pleasure in life?
Maybe it’s a relationship—a friendship,
a girlfriend or boyfriend, a spouse or a
child. Maybe it’s your work—or the money
you make. Maybe it’s a hobby—perhaps
you’re a die-hard mountain climber or a
sports fanatic or photographer. Maybe
it’s your volunteer work with a cause you
care about. Maybe it’s a substance—alcohol,
drugs, sugar. Maybe it’s adrenaline.
Maybe it’s sex. Maybe it’s media, and you
spend hours a day online or watching TV
or Netflix.
God designed the world with seemingly
countless opportunities for pleasure,
which tells us he wants us to enjoy life. He
created friendship and romantic love and
parenting and work and sports and food
and sex. None of these things are bad—
in fact, he called them “very good”! But
none of them were designed to be the
pleasure in life. None of them are meant to
be the focus of our happiness. Even more,
all of them can be our undoing if they’re
allowed to run rampant in our lives.
This week we’re going to discover more
of our heart’s design for happiness and
pleasure. We all want increased satisfaction
in our lives—let’s gain increased
insight in how to have it.
