JUVENILE<br />
IMPULSE CONTROL / SHOPLIFTING / PETIT THEFT<br />
(4-hour)<br />
Purpose: This course is designed to help offenders, age 13-17, examine their behavior,<br />
attitude and actions. Open to juveniles from other referral sources in the community.<br />
Students will learn how to identify the steps necessary to make a positive change in<br />
their lives.<br />
COURT ORDERED.<br />
Business referrals, youth agency referrals, and parental referrals are also encouraged.<br />
Goal: To reduce the reoccurrence of theft and its impact on the individual, the family, the<br />
business and community.<br />
Course Content:<br />
� Cause, effect and consequences of committing theft.<br />
� Impulse control and alternative behavior.<br />
� Taking control and being accountable and responsible for one’s own attitudes and<br />
behaviors.<br />
� Identifying and distinguishing between wants and needs.<br />
� Setting effective goals and establishing priorities.<br />
� Defining and clarifying personal values.<br />
� Assertiveness, self-motivation and trust building exercises.<br />
� Identifying and defining positive behavior and attitude for a crime-free life.<br />
� Identifying positive role models and friends.<br />
� Discuss peer pressure and utilize methods and techniques in resisting peer pressure.<br />
Course Format:<br />
� Four (4) hour course.<br />
� Uses integrity therapy and behavior modification to explore conduct and the consequences<br />
of negative decisions and actions.<br />
� Small class size to encourage individual participation.<br />
