Artistes cross religious borders for musical feat<br />

New Zealand Thirumurugan<br />

Temple in particular should<br />

consider themselves fortunate<br />

as a number of artistes of varied<br />

religions come together to<br />

process a music programme in<br />

Auckland next fortnight.<br />

Nadesan Nanthakumar, who<br />

calls, the programme, ‘A Musical<br />

Journey- Beats & Melodies’ is<br />

not sparing any effort to make<br />

it a success and raise as much<br />

money as possible for the<br />

Temple.<br />

The three editions of the<br />

‘Journey’ in as many years have<br />

brought about $16,500, and with<br />

the performers showing their<br />

generosity, this year’s event<br />

should also fetch not less than<br />

$4000.<br />

The Performers<br />

The programme will be held<br />

on Saturday, February 27, 2016<br />

at Auckland Normal Intermediate<br />

School auditorium, located<br />

at Poronui Street, Mount Eden.<br />

The ‘Interfaith’ artistes include<br />

Akhilesh Madhur (Tabla),<br />

Balu Mallela (Octopad), Joscel<br />

Alexander (Acoustic Drums),<br />

Jerish Jose (Lead Guitar), Joseph<br />

Alexander (<strong>Electronic</strong> Drums),<br />

Madan Mohan Kalyan (Keyboard)<br />

and Vishnu Sreekumar<br />

(Bass Guitar).<br />

They will be led by the Nanthakumar<br />

sisters Geerthana, Divya<br />

and Manisha.<br />

Geerthana Nanthakumar<br />

Geerthana is pursuing her graduate<br />

(BA) course in Commerce at the<br />

University of Auckland, following<br />

which she will undertake studies to<br />

become a Chartered Accountant.She is<br />

on summer internship at PricewaterhouseCoopers.<br />

She completed Associated Board<br />

of the Royal Schools of Music grade<br />

eight exams on violin and piano and<br />

for the last 10 years, she has been a<br />

frequent performer at many shows<br />

in Auckland. She teaches Violin and<br />

Piano.<br />

Divya Nanthakumar<br />

Divya is a second year undergraduate<br />

student (Commerce) at the<br />

University of Auckland and hopes to<br />

follow her sister to become a Chartered<br />

Accountant.She is employed as<br />

a casual sales consultant at the New<br />

Zealand Media and Entertainment.<br />

Her qualifications at the Associated<br />

Board of the Royal Schools of Music<br />

grade are also identical to that of<br />

Geerthana and teaches Violin,Piano<br />

and Music Theory.<br />

Manisha Nanthakumar<br />

Manisha is a year Nine student at<br />

Epsom Girls Grammar School.She has<br />

completed Associated Board of the<br />

Royal Schools of Music Grade 5 Piano<br />

and Grade 6 Violin exams.She has<br />

been representing the Auckland Primary<br />

Principals’ Association orchestra<br />

for the past five years.<br />

She is also learning Carnatic music<br />

and Eastern Classical Violin and<br />

played Netball and Softball for her<br />

school.<br />
