Sean Reitz and Riaan Greyling were ecstatic with their 37th place overall (67 teams finished) taking into consideration that Reitz has only been competing in off-road racing for about three years! They clawed their way up from 88th place after electrical problems and a roll slowed them down. Corbett also rolled once and Poulter landed on his side during the race. The huge learning curve did not hold them back. There was a huge disappointment for our german South Africans Jurgen and Daniel Schröder who rolled their SA built Nissan Navara the day before the finish. In the truck category, SA’s Sean Berriman in a DAF truck #555 finished 33rd. As always, there are so many stories to be told after the Dakar Rally, but for now: thumbs up to all the SA competitors; their crew and technical support and supporters at home for their participation (and great results) in the 2016 Dakar Rally.
