Nations sustainability<br />
body in April <strong>2012</strong><br />
<strong>Safaricom</strong> CEO, Bob Collymore has been appointed to the United Nations<br />
Global Compact Board, a voluntary UN initiative that encourages businesses<br />
to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies. The initiative also<br />
encourages corporate support for the UN’s Millennium Development Goals and<br />
corporate adherence to human rights, good labour practices, support for the<br />
environment and anti-corruption.<br />
Mr Collymore’s appointment as an honorary board member for a three year<br />
term is seen as recognition of <strong>Safaricom</strong>’s commitment to environmental,<br />
sustainability and anti-corruption issues, as well as the work the company is<br />
undertaking to address Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5, regarding<br />
maternal health and child mortality.<br />
