Continued from page 21 Artistic Director and full-time dance faculty, Michele Jenkins, choreographed several of the dance works including a contemporary dance suite paying tribute to Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas with music by Danny Elfman; a funky jazz piece mixing humor, quirkiness, and high energy with music by Infectious Grooves; an eccentrically playful and dark-humored modern dance piece with music by David Bowie, honoring the extraordinary innovator; and a contemporary ballet with an aura of otherworldly enchantment. Kristin Rooney, Chaffey adjunct instructor, offers a contemporary modern dance ensemble work that explores space and water-inspired fluidity, and also from Kristin, a 1960’s Mambo-styled Salsa piece with elements of Latin Jazz showcasing the percussive power and textures of Afro-Cuban and African-rooted rhythms. Chaffey adjunct faculty also include Paige Melvin, who provides an abstract ballet-influenced contemporary modern dance that expressively portrays the concept of resurrection with music by Dustin O’Halloran, and Diane Bonds, who fuses contemporary hip hop and jazz funk dance styles with mainstream hip hop music and an upbeat environmental mix of percussive rhythms. Advanced student-choreography includes a modern dance/acrobatic visual spectacle, and campy, dark-humored parody excerpts from the musicals Honk! and Rocky Horror Picture Show. Creating amazing scenic magic is intelligent lighting designer Guy Rock, who returns to provide technical and dynamic lighting artistry and video imagery, along with the talents of conventional lighting designer, Gary Reinschmidt. Kaleidoscope 2016 runs April 28, 29 and 30 at 7:30pm and May 1 at 2pm at the Chaffey College Theatre.
