EXHIBITION BRIEFS ANDREW ESSEX riums in Porto and Lisbon. Both 4DX theaters are scheduled to open in the first half of this year. NOS operates 215 screens at 30 locations in the country and is backed by NOS Group, a Portuguese communications and entertainment holding company whose businesses include satellite and cable operations, mobile and fixed phone services, broadband, and distribution of contents. SFC is China’s ninth-largest cinema company, operating 252 screens at 39 locations in the East China region, and Bona Cinemas is the eleventh, operating 247 screens at 30 locations in China’s big cities including Beijing, Shanghai, and Xiamen, where the company’s first 4DX will launch. With these agreements, 4DX has formed partnerships with 7 out of China’s top 11 cinema companies. ANDREW ESSEX NAMED CEO OF TRIBECA ENTERPRISES n Andrew Essex has been named CEO of Tribeca Enterprises. In his new role, the founding CEO of creative agency Droga5 will oversee Tribeca’s businesses, reporting to co-founder Jane Rosenthal, who will serve as executive chair. Tribeca Enterprises is a diversified global media company based in New York. Established in 2003 by Robert De Niro, Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff, the company currently operates a network of branded entertainment businesses including the Tribeca Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival International, Tribeca Digital Studios, and Tribeca Cinemas. Tribeca recently partnered with Lionsgate to launch the Tribeca Shortlist premium subscription video on demand (SVOD) service, and the two companies will continue to acquire titles for that platform. Prior to his role overseeing Droga5, which the Guardian called “the most exciting agency on the planet,” Essex was an award-winning journalist He sits on several boards and is a frequent public speaker on media, marketing, and monetization strategies. Essex is also an adviser to the White House Office of Digital Strategy and the Global Board of Wharton’s Future of Advertising Program. DEALFLICKS SELLS ITS MILLIONTH TICKET AND CONCESSIONS n Startup Dealflicks has now sold over one million tickets and concessions since its launch in summer 2012. Dealflicks offers movie ticket and concessions combo deals for up to 60 percent off, with no convenience fees, in hopes of eliminating the approximately 88 percent of empty movie theater seats. “Reaching one million deals sold really has been a hard-won battle,” said Ryan Fitzgerald, director of business development for DealFlicks. “We’ve been able to achieve this growth by consistently iterating 10 BoxOffice ® FEBRUARY <strong>2016</strong>
