The Arba Kanfots or <strong>Tallit</strong> Katan<br />

<strong>Tallit</strong> Katan = Small <strong>Tallit</strong><br />

After <strong>the</strong> 13th century AD, when <strong>the</strong> dressing styles <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> nations where <strong>the</strong> Jews<br />

were in dispersion changed, Tzitzit began to be worn on new inner garments,<br />

known as Arba Kanfos, ra<strong>the</strong>r than <strong>the</strong> outer garments. This inner garment was a<br />

rectangle, with a hole in <strong>the</strong> centre for <strong>the</strong> head to pass through. According to<br />

Jewish Halakhah (legal rules), <strong>the</strong> <strong>Tallit</strong> Katan must be at least twenty-four inches<br />

long <strong>and</strong> eighteen inches wide. It was worn just under <strong>the</strong> overcoat but over <strong>the</strong><br />
