An adventure on rail
You can almost feel a tingling sensation in your body when you start riding
the trolley on the disused railway Haparandabanan, filled with history.
Although the trolley weights 60 kg, it is actually easier to ride than a bicycle
- it moves very smoothly along the railway!
Haparandabanan starts in Morjärv and ends in Haparanda. If you want to
you can pedal all the way, ninety striking kilometres, or opt for a shorter
distance. The trolleys are based by the station in Vitvattnet and the path
features forests, bridges, lakes and swamps - not a rare sight in these part
of the woods. Bring a picnic basket or why not make a stop at one of the
restaurants to enjoy lunch or perhaps a cup of coffee and start the railway
journey with your family!
King of the forest
”Our guests find getting to pet, cuddle
and feed the mooses incredible’, Ola
says. It’s a completely unique experience
for the visitor and an equally
unique opportunity for us to show the
animals, offer genuine Sami food and
tell you about our ancient Sami culture”.
There is something special about being
so close to the king of the forest - a visit
to the Arctic Moose farm is a memory
for life and a delightful experience for
the whole family! Don’t forget your
camera, you may be able to take a
selfie (or should we say moose - fie?)
with one of the nice mooses. The farm
is located about 20 kilometres north
of Överkalix along the E10. Guided
moose tours can be booked in advance.
