It is said that each place has its own charm, and no one would
disagree when we say that eastern Swedish Lapland is a very
charming place indeed, with plenty of small picturesque islands
in the archipelago with magnificent scenery as well as a fascinating
history. Locals inviting guests for a dance on a balmy summer
evening and children playing outdoors making friends for
life, are not rare sights. That truly is holiday at its best - uncomplicated,
peaceful and absolutely wonderful.
The main attraction in this area is in fact nature itself. In the
summertime you’ll experience the famous Midnight Sun. The
sun won’t stop shining and darkness is banished. It may mess up
your sleeping pattern, spending nights in daylight, but believe
us when we say - you don’t want to miss out on this experience!
Why not make the most of it by heading to the river for some
midnight fishing?
This is a place of rich culture and vibrant minority languages:
Finnish, Meänkieli and Sami are all spoken alongside Swedish.
The five main destinations in the region are: Kalix, Haparanda,
Övertorneå, Pajala and Överkalix, all located at a convenient distance
from each other. In other words - you have time to explore
the whole region while you’re here.

the world prefers eastern Swedish Lapland above all other places
he’s visited? Let the locals’ warm hearts remind us that everybody
matters - we’re all important and equal.
Let the culinary flavours guide you between the different
destinations. You’ll find traditional dishes on the menu such
as reindeer, moose, grouse and capercaillie served with freshly
picked berries. The local cuisine is diverse with natural ingredients
of highest quality, straight from the forest. Local produced
at its finest... Why not let cranberries, blueberries, cloudberries
or perhaps arctic raspberries wrap up the perfect meal? You
can’t leave Kalix without having tried Kalix bleak roe (Kalix löjrom),
an exclusive local delicacy that simply can’t be missed!
