National Rally 2016
Lothar Freischlader opens the Rally
Scenic pit stop
Jim Kofinas & his wife
300 SL Roadster against Kiama Beach
their machines. Simon welcomed Lothar Freischlader,
the Consul General of Germany to the stage, who spoke
very highly of the Mercedes-Benz badge and its country of
origin, of course. Lothar opened the 2016 National Rally
by cutting the official Rally ribbon.
never ending selection of tasty canapes were passed
A around with bartenders and waiting staff busy
preparing afternoon aperitifs and the drink of choice was
the Cosmopolitan!
It was an interesting role trying to determine if guests
would prefer King prawn with avocado stack or crab cake
with a Yamba prawn for an entree? Or which café would
welcome a set classic Mercedes-Benz vehicles lining
their grounds? Or where the awards dinner following the
Concours should be held this year? But with long standing
Club Members, their partners and their cars, all these first
world problems became easy to solve. The 2016 National
Rally Cocktail Party was one of these instances, so thank
you for attending and making it worth our time.
Finally, I would like to thank Jonathan, Andrea and
Casey from the Novotel who worked tirelessly to
accommodate our Rally and guests needs.
ingredients, such as the time allocated for the mixture,
when to start and for how long. So the chef, namely
John Assarapin and his jolly band of helpers, began the
procedure.
At 8.30am, the fleet of fabulous Mercedes-Benz departed
the Novotel Hotel Brighton Le Sands, to begin John’s well
planned recipe. It had taken many hours to make this
run perfect over two years of test runs and he must have
felt proud watching it all come to fruition, with a perfect
temperature of 28 degrees. He had created a master event
and everyone congratulated him and his crew for a day to
remember.
We drove down the Grand parade, passing Botany
Bay on our left glistening in the sun, and with three
pages of easy to read instructions, the route led us through
to the southern suburbs and on to the Royal National park
(one of the first declared in the world). It was a fantastic
