Miracle or Myth?
Garcinia Cambogia
The fruit for weight loss
It has been debated whether
or not Garcinia Cambogia
is effective and/or safe for
weight loss. Garcinia Cambogia
is a citrus fruit that grows
in Southeast Asia, and an
extract from the fruit’s rind—
hydroxycitric acid (HCA)—is the
active ingredient. HCA increases
metabolism, burns fat quickly,
and is said to curb appetite.
Research behind its effectiveness has
been mixed, but some believe it is a
weight loss miracle drug that requires no
exercise, no dieting, and no extra effort.
Some studies show promising results
that the fruit makes use of glucose
easier for the body and lowers insulin
levels, which is a positive for diabetics.
It reportedly has been shown to reduce
appetite by raising levels of serotonin
in the brain, to curb cravings, and to
lower the body’s ability to make fat
by blocking the citrate lyase enzyme,
which is used to make fat. Studies also
indicate the weight loss drug can lower
triglycerides and bad cholesterol.
On the other hand, there are studies
that have concluded that Garcinia
Cambogia did not help people
noticeably lose weight. Some reviews
indicate weight loss results in those
taking the fruit are not much higher
than those who have not taken it.
Many sources say “better studies are
needed.” There are aspects of using
the fruit that are questionable, such
as its effects on the liver. It is advised
that Garcinia Cambogia may react
badly with medications for allergies,
asthma, diabetes/blood sugar control,
cholesterol, and psychiatric conditions,
as well as iron for anemia, pain
medicines, or blood thinners.
Anyone who is pregnant or nursing, or
those with kidney or liver problems,
should not use Garcinia Cambogia, and
as always, anyone interested in seeing
if the fruit is a miracle weight loss drug
should consult a doctor or physician
before use.
Side effects reportedly can include
dizziness, headaches, dry mouth,
upset stomach, and diarrhea.
Despite studies, success stories have
reportedly been shared around the
globe. A Tweet by famous comedian
Amy Schumer in November 2015
thanked Garcinia Cambogia for
easy weight loss success. Schumer
reportedly said she loved that the
product was all-natural and safe for
her body, and she would recommend
it to anyone in her life.
An MTV News reporter tried out the
miracle pills after Schumer’s reported
success, along with green coffee, and
said she dropped 28 pounds in one
month just by taking two pills per
day. Comments on an MTV News –
Canada thread about Schumer’s use
and the reporter’s use of the pills also
share,success stories.
Many cases point out the importance
of finding the most pure Garcinia
Cambogia product as possible, rather
than one with filler, for the safest and
best succes.
When considering trying
anything new, like this socalled
miracle weight loss
regimen, remember to do
your own research; so much
information is right at your
fingertips.
A ROMANCE STORY
PART I
It was here. The most nerveracking
yet thrilling day of Avery
Anderson’s life. It was her first day
being an intern at one of the top
movie studios in the country, Jax &
Teller Pictures. She could feel the
warm California sun hit her face
as she headed out the front door
of her studio apartment towards
her beat up Ford Focus anxiously
awaiting what the day would have
in store for her. On her drive to the
studio she couldn’t help but notice
all the glamorous people looking
like they just stepped foot out of a
magazine. Their skin, clothes, and
hair was perfection, making Avery
wonder if she would fit in with
these California bombshells. She
was a curious looking girl with long,
flowing brown hair, olive skin, and
big hazel eyes that shimmered in the
light. She was far from a bombshell,
but uniquely beautiful.
Avery was from a small town in
Massachusetts, where she was raised
by her mother who never seemed to
want anything to do with her. Her
mother, Christina Anderson, was
the head neurosurgeon at Harvard
and was more focused on her career
than her daughter. At a young age,
Avery decided she wanted to write
and produce movies. Her mother, on
the other hand, thought her goals
and dreams were a waste of time.
Christina wanted Avery to follow in
her footsteps and eventually take
over the neurology unit at Harvard.
Avery was very intelligent. She
had a photographic memory which
allowed her to remember anything
she read. Though, she was smart
enough to know that neurology
and medical school was not for her.
Avery wanted to live life the way her
mother was unable to. She wanted
to explore the world. She wanted
to love. She wanted to be happy.
That’s when Avery decided to move
out and study film at NYU. Her hard
work and intelligence scored her
an internship with Jax & Teller
Pictures, and that’s where her story
truly begins.
As she pulled up to the gates of Jax
& Teller Pictures, she couldn’t help
but feel a rush of adrenaline pour
through her veins. She approached
a man holding a clipboard to ask
where the interns were to meet. As
the man turned around Avery was
taken back by the feverishly good
looks of this man. They gazed upon
each other for a few moments until
he said to her, “You’re standing
right in the middle of my shot…”
Frazzled and embarrassed, Avery
apologized rapidly, still unsure of
where she was supposed to sign
in. She hurriedly ran toward a
table filled with coffee and donuts,
hoping she would be able to shove
a donut in her face and forget what
just happened. It was then she
realized that the intern sign in was
in that very spot. Avery gathered
her composure and approached
the table when she tripped on
her shoelace and watched as her
coffee went flying through the air
only to land on the lady sitting in
front of her.
“I am SO unbelievably sorry! Please
let me help you! It’s my first day…
and I’m just really sorry.” The
lady rose from her seat with an
unenthusiastic look as she glanced
down at her paperwork and scoffed,
“You must be Miss Anderson.”
“How could you guess?” Avery asked.
“Usually it’s the brightest of
students who show up late,” the
lady responded. Avery wasn’t
even there for ten minutes and
already managed to ruin some sexy
man’s shot, pour coffee all over
her instructor, and show up late.
It was moments like these where
Avery began to doubt herself and
think that her mother was right.
She would never be anything but
ordinary. Avery decided to wipe
away her negativity and give the
day another shot. After all, there is
no way her day could get any worse,
right?
After Avery’s fraternizing morning,
she was finally able to unwind and
meet some of the other interns.
There was Alisha from Chapman
University, Jackson from Columbia,
Dwayne from UCLA, and Karma
from Stanford. Avery was instantly
drawn to Jackson. He was tall,
dark, handsome, and had the most
infectious personality. She was
happy to have made one friend
during her first day. After the
interns got to know each other
they were given a tour by the lady
from the sign in desk, who was
later introduced to the interns
as Viola Eriksson. One of the
cinematographers of Jax & Teller
Pictures, and one of the only
people who could rock a coffee
stained t-shirt.
“The website really didn’t do this
place justice,” Jackson whispered
to Avery as they made their way
through one of the first studios.
Avery could not believe how
extravagant every studio and set
was. Jax & Teller was a dream
come true for Avery, and it was
getting better and better every
second. “Alright interns, now that
you’ve seen the ground you will
be working on for the next few
months, I think you are now ready
to meet your on-site mentors. You
will be working closely with these
people for the next few months, so
do your best not to piss them off,”
Viola addressed the group.
Each intern had an area of study.
There was Cinematography,
Scriptwriting, Editing/Production,
Sound Editing and Directing. The
interns selected for this program
8
were each chosen for a specific
area in the filmmaking process.
Jackson was selected by the Sound
Editing department, Alisha was
selected by Scriptwriting, Karma
by Cinematography, Dwayne for
Editing/Production, and Avery by
the Directing team. Karma seemed
to have been the luckiest of the
bunch because she already got
to spend the entire day with her
mentor, Viola. It had seemed as
though Karma had good karma. The
interns waited patiently in Studio
11 until their mentors were free
and able to explain to them their
duties within each department. It
seemed as though Avery was the
unluckiest of the bunch. Everyone
else had already met their mentors
and were already off learning while
Avery sat in an uncomfortable chair
sipping coffee until her mentor
decided to arrive.
A silhouette of a man entered
through the doorway walking
toward Avery. As he grew closer,
Avery noticed that the man was
looking down at his clipboard
when he abruptly looked up saying,
“Avery Anderson?” To both of their
surprise, the man just so happened
to be the director Avery bumped
into earlier in the morning, ruining
his “perfect shot.” It seemed as
though Avery’s karma was not
the best. “Aren’t you the girl from
this morning?” the man asked
Avery. Embarrassed, Avery meekly
responded, “Yes, guilty.”
“Well, lucky for you the shot ended
up working out just fine. And I guess
I should properly introduce myself.
I’m Mark Hunt and I will be your
mentor starting now. I am involved
in numerous shoots this week, so
we have to go over this information
quickly. Are you ready?” Mark asked
Avery. “I’ve never been more ready
in my life,” Avery exclaimed as she
jumped out of her seat, eager to
learn from one of the best directors
in the business.
Avery was thrilled to be working
closely with Mark Hunt. Not only
had he made a name for himself as
a top notch director at such a young
age, but he also was very easy on the
eyes. Avery couldn’t help but notice
the sparkle that was constantly
shimmering in his eyes. Or the way
his hair laid perfectly on his head.
He had a muscular build and arms
that could make any girl go weak
at the knees. Needless to say, Mark
Hunt’s looks were comparable to
the gods and were surely going to
be a distraction. But Avery refused
to let the sparkle in his eyes get in
the way of her work.
Mark took Avery through everything
in a short amount of time. It was
a good thing that she had a great
memory or she would’ve been in
bad shape. They toured every set,
studio, and location they would be
filming in throughout the summer.
Avery was overwhelmed with
excitement wishing they could get
started right away. “Now, I need
you to know one thing. The other
interns are going to be more hands
on during the first couple of weeks.
Don’t get discouraged. Directing is
more intricate and I want you to
be 100% prepared before I let you
take charge. The quicker you learn
the faster you will get to direct
your first shoot,” Mark explained to
Avery.
It was only day one and Avery
already was feeling confident in
herself. So what if the other interns
get to get their hands dirty within
the first week? She was going to be
directing scenes at some point. That
was always her goal. Get credited in
an amazing film for directing, and
then who knows… maybe win an
Oscar one day.
The first day was over. Avery was so
ready to get home, soak her feet, and
get some sleep. She made her way
to her car, got in, and put the key
in the ignition. The only problem
was, her car refused to start. “You
have got to be kidding me,” Avery
screamed as she smacked her
hands down on the stirring wheel.
She knew her day was going a little
too well. She got out and looked
around for anyone who might be
able to help, when she spotted
Mark walking to his car. “Hey Mark!
Is there any way you might be able
to give me a ride home?” Avery
yelled across the parking lot. “Sure,
get in. I know what it’s like to drive
around a hunk of junk. If you’re
lucky maybe one day you’ll be able
to upgrade like I did,” Mark said as
he caressed the dashboard of his
2016 BMW. “I really do appreciate
this,” Avery said as she glanced over
at Mark who looked even better in
the moonlight than he did earlier.
“I hope you don’t mind, but I have
to stop at a friends house real
quick to drop off some paperwork,”
Mark said. “No, that’s completely
fine,” Avery replied. They turned
off onto one of the most beautiful
roads Avery had ever seen. There
were homes that looked like they
were straight out of a movie. Palm
trees, perfect grass, and the most
beautiful flowers lined the street.
Avery noticed Mark put his turn
signal on as they turned onto the
cobblestone driveway of the most
amazing house on the street.
Avery could not believe her eyes.
The fountain in the driveway was
bigger than her whole apartment,
and not to mention probably more
expensive. “I’ll be right back,” Mark
said as Avery watched him walk
toward the front door. She then
noticed a woman arrive at the door.
She was in a white silk robe and her
auburn hair was pulled up loosely.
The lady looked very familiar to
her. It then hit her. The lady was
actress Bethany Grey. She was even
more beautiful than in the movies.
Avery wondered if she was going to
be starring in one of Mark’s next
movies. Was she going to get to
direct Bethany Grey? Avery’s heart
fluttered with excitement until
she looked up and noticed Mark
was grabbing her by the waist. He
then slowly moved his body closer
to hers as he gave her the most
passionate kiss Avery had ever
witnessed. Avery’s heart sank as
she realized that Mark was taken by
a Hollywood starlet…
The Signs and Dangers
So, here’s what you need to do instead:
The Dangers Of Hoarding
Educate Yourself On Hoarders
Hoarders are not only a danger to themselves but to their
surroundings. They cause anger, resentment and depression
among family members.
Just like you are doing now, getting a deeper understanding
of hoarding will give you the ability to tolerate the behavior
and learn how to wittily approach the issue in your home.
When going through online forums, I came across a
woman who stated that she had a hard time throwing
things away, be it old newspapers, flyers, magazines and old
clothes among others. So serious was her problem that it led
to discord within her family, husband and children, who felt
embarrassed and upset.
What exactly was wrong with her?
Just like many other people, she was a hoarder and this
behavior was almost breaking her family.
What Is A Hoarder?
A hoarder is someone who finds persistent difficulty discarding
or doing away with possessions, regardless of their value. Usually,
these people will hoard newspapers, magazines, paper bags and
photographs. To them, they might find use for these items in
the future.
What Is The Difference Between
A Hoarder And A Collector?
Hoarders usually find shame in items that they have stored while
collectors actually have pride in their collections. Generally, this
is because hoarders actually store clutter that makes them appear
disorganized while collectors organize their collections in an
admirable way, knowing the exact value of their items.
Symptoms Of A Hoarder
• Inability to throw away possessions
• If they try to throw away their possessions, they
suffer from severe anxiety.
• They have obsessive thoughts
• Suffer from distress due to the embarrassment that
hoarding brings
• They also suffer from functional impairments
such as marital discord, family issues and loss of
living space.
What Causes Hoarding
People suffering from disorders such as obsessivecompulsive
disorder (OCD), obsessive-compulsive
personality disorder (OCPD), depression and
attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have
been shown to also exhibit hoarding behaviors. Their
obsessive thoughts and fear of lacking that particular
item in the future causes them to hoard.
In worse scenarios, children from such a home are most
likely to suffer from social alienation due to the unwelcoming
nature of their home. They even become victims of bullying
among their peers, eventually affecting their self-esteem.
There have also been cases of separated parents losing
custody of their children due to hoarding, caused by the
unlivable conditions they offer.
What To Do If You Live
With A Hoarder
Clearly, hoarders have deep psychological issues, which
means that we should be careful in how we engage them.
Understanding their psychology will help you tolerate and
help them out in a better way.
Generic advice such as, “just throw it away, it’s no big deal,
you have a disorganized mind, and you are a slob,” will only
be met with anger.
Use An Outsider To
Talk To Them
Dr. Robin Zasio, a contributor at GAIAM life advises that
while it is not right to involve a friend in a conflict between
you and your loved one, third party objectivity can help a
hoarder make better choices. The fact that third parties are
not sentimentally attached to the possessions could help
talk sense into a hoarder.
Understand That It Can
Be Frustrating
The fact that hoarders have attention and obsession
disorders means that it could sometimes be frustrating for
you to talk them out of their cluttering behavior. To avoid
this, remember that you need to be a loving supporter
and cheerleader.
Final Words
Living with a hoarder is exasperating and requires a
significant level of patience and tolerance. Bottom line is,
you need to understand that this is a psychological problem
and you need to be gentle in solving it. For hoarders, it is
utterly important that you understand your problem and
seek professional help, if need be.
Summer
Make-up
other options that last longer. Stickon
gems are fun to use on your face
to add a little bling for a day. They
can be applied the same way as
fake tattoos, but only last a day.
There are so many fun things to do for
the summer with your makeup. Just
always remember to have fun, do
what you love, and be happy with
yourself because U are always IT!
Bye, bye dry skin!
Hello sun-kissed skin!
We can’t wait for summer to
get here! But how do you keep
your makeup from melting
off? Well, UR IT has some tricks
for you!
One very important tool to
add to your makeup kit for the
summer is sunscreen. There are
daily moisturizers that have
SPF 10 or 15. Switching to this
for the summer will be easy
because it won’t add an extra
step into your morning routine.
This is also important because
it will help protect your skin
from the sun, especially since
we don’t usually wear thick
makeup when we are out in
the sun.
As you read in the January
magazine, the trends for 2016
are minimal makeup, popping
eyeliner, and bold lips. When
following these trends, you
need to know the secrets of
keeping your makeup from
melting off.
Foundation:
If you use a liquid foundation,
use a thin layer, and then use
translucent powder to keep it in
place. Using translucent powder
in the summer is the best way to
keep up with your changing tan.
This will save you from having to
buy multiple shades throughout
the summer. The sun naturally
changes our skin, whether we
lay out to get tan or are outside
doing an activity. Translucent
powder also helps settle the
wetness of the foundation.
We all sweat and it can cause
makeup to run, but powder can
help prevent the running.
Eyeliner:
When using a pencil eyeliner,
find a color of eyeshadow
that matches the color of the
eyeliner. Apply the eyeliner,
then apply the eyeshadow
over the eyeliner to help dry
out the wetness of the eyeliner.
Waterproof eyeliner works
sometimes, but most waterproof
pencil eyeliners don’t seem to
glide as smoothly across your
eye. If you would rather use
a waterproof eyeliner, try a
waterproof liquid eyeliner. Liquid
eyeliners usually dry quickly or
act like a stain.
Lips:
Lip colors can be tricky to keep
long-lasting unless you spend
a pretty penny for lipstick, and
sometimes they don’t work. This
is a cheaper and easier way
to keep your favorite lip color
lasting long: At night before
bed, use a lip scrub to take
off any dead skin, then use a
moisturizing lip balm to soften
your lips. When you apply lip
color in the morning, use a thin
layer of liquid foundation to
cover your lips. Next, apply a thin
layer of the lip color. Then, dust
translucent power across your
lips, and add a final layer of the
lip color. This will help the color
last longer than just applying the
color directly to your bare lips.
A few other trends for 2016 are
fake tattoos and body art. You
can find fake tattoos at many
UR IT Advertising... We’re not only
the future, WE R THE NOW!
This month’s cover girl
has been part of UR IT
for over a year now and
continuously proves her
drive and determination in
modeling! Carly is always
improving and looking for
the next challenge.
It all started with one of
our social media contests.
Carly won and has since
been part of numerous UR
IT photoshoots, fashion
shows, and has had the
opportunity to be a UR IT
Fragrance model. Read on
to find out all about Carly!
UR IT – Please tell us, and the
readers, a little bit about you.
Carly - Well, where do I begin?
My full name is Carly Nichole
Baumbaugh. I graduated from
Ferndale Area High School in
2014 and I am 20 years old at this
moment. I grew up in Johnstown,
Pennsylvania my whole life. I was
attending Cambria Rowe to get a
degree in Medical Assistant but I
changed my mind and now want
to go to school to be a surgical
technologist. I have the most
amazing parents around and the
best two older sisters who I wouldn’t
trade for the world. They will always
be my biggest supporters wherever
my life takes me in the near future.
Lastly, what I love to do on a daily
basis is hang out with my two best
friends, DeAnna and Ashley, who are
also my supporters in everything I
do. But other than that, I love to go
fishing, off-roading, have bonfires
and play volleyball all year round
in leagues.
UR IT - How and when did you get
involved with UR IT and why did
you make the decision to pursue
the opportunity?
Carly - I got involved with UR IT
Magazine last May when I joined the
contest for the back cover of June in
2015. I made the decision to pursue
this opportunity because I have
always loved getting in front of the
camera and working it. Photography
has always been something I have
been into. If it’s not someone taking
pictures, then I am always taking
pictures of myself. It’s something I
enjoy so much.
UR IT - How did it feel to win and
claim that back cover?
- Carly
Carly - When I won the back cover
of June in 2015, I was probably one
of the happiest girls alive. Everyone
who I was going against were all
so beautiful; I just never thought
I would have had the chance. But
being on Facebook 24/7 watching
the “likes” was all so worth it. I also
couldn’t have done it without my
friends and family; they made it
all happen.
UR IT - What experiences have
you had with UR IT and what are
some of the best memories?
Carly - The experience I have had
with UR IT has been unbelievable.
I have been with UR IT for a whole
year now and I’ve been involved in
so much. Starting from being the
back cover, to representing the “UR
Secret” fragrance for an entire year,
being in two fashion shows, and
getting to go to Myrtle Beach for
a photo shoot with some amazing
girls. Honestly, everything has
been such an amazing experience.
If I could relive everything again, I
would do it in a heart beat.
UR IT - How has UR IT influenced
you and/or changed your view of
yourself and others?
Carly - UR IT has influenced me
in every way. Just knowing you
are going to be around the most
comfortable and non-judgmental
people is an amazing feeling. I love
how it’s not just about perfectly fit
girls, but girls of any shape or size.
I just want to tell everyone to let no
one get in your way and go for it.
Whatever you want to do, you can
reach it. Set your mind to it, anyone
can be IT!
Loving Life Outside My Comfort Zone
I’ve always admired
radio personalities.
Imagine the challenge
of talking your way
through a four-hour
show – sometimes
without a co-host – with
your audience only able
to listen.
It’s hard enough to do live TV
with all of the visual distractions
available, but, to me, radio has
always seemed like one of the
ultimate media challenges, and one
that I’d yet to conquer.
After finishing college with a
degree in journalism, I went on to
work as a newspaper reporter the
next seven years and I’m currently
in my sixth season hosting Tribe
games for the Cleveland Indians.
Additionally, I’ve emceed countless
live events … but there’s just
something about radio.
You have to entertain thousands
on a daily basis, and do it in a
way that creates a dynamic visual
for the audience. You have to be
comfortable telling jokes to an
invisible audience. You have to be
up on the latest and prepared for
constant changes – all the while
trying to play music, edit content,
record voiceovers and field callers.
You have to talk and laugh in a tone
that doesn’t annoy everyone.
It’s a lot tougher than I think
most imagine.
About a year ago, I was lucky
enough to begin working on the
promotions team for CBS Radio in
Cleveland, home of Q104, 92.3 The
Fan, WNCX and WDOK.
The job involved facilitating fun
events on behalf of the station.
Our goal is to bring the feel of
each individual station to life
and allow people to connect on a
more personal platform. We play
games with
guests, distribute
information and prizes,
play music and make
sure that they leave with
a positive memory.
Occasionally, we work
with the radio personalities
who are on site to either
execute a live broadcast or
greet fans.
I’ve always enjoyed promotional
events. I love meeting new people and
actually look forward to the challenge
of making personal connections with
guests in mere minutes.
But recently, I was offered the most
amazing opportunity.
A few months ago, I began working
with Q104 Afternoon Host and
Producer Kelly McMann to become
the new female accent voice for the
Top 40 station.
At first I had no idea what this meant.
I quickly learned I would be helping
to provide a voice for a lot of our
station taglines: “Streaming live
now on Q104.com;” “Today’s best
music… on Q104!”
32
THE JAMI KINTON DIARIES
THE JAMI KINTON DIARIES 33
I also have gotten the opportunity to
do several voiceover commercials
for the station which have included
the promotion of live music events
coming to town, station promotions,
holiday specials and more.
The first time I walked into the Q104
studios to record, I was incredibly
nervous.
My throat had been pretty sore
leading up to that day and, of
course, I wanted to make a good
first impression, but every word
out of my mouth was painful.
Fortunately, Kelly couldn’t have
been nicer. After retrieving a glass
of water, she helped me go through
each line one by one, and with the
utmost care.
She said to me, “Give me three or four
different ways to say each.”
Afterward, she’d give me three or
four more.
I was so impressed. How
she could come up with
that many variations of
the same sentence was
beyond me.
Kelly has such a smooth,
confident, engaging
voice. I love her style and
started really paying close
attention to her show.
It’s important that my voice
provide its own unique
sound, but still keeping in
line with the style and flow of
the station.
Q104 is hip and trendy, fun and
edgy.
As a former Radio Disney live
performer, my hosting got
quite familiar with kidappeal
– higher pitched, sunny,
ultra-upbeat, you know the drill.
When I delivered my first read,
Kelly very carefully requested I
lower my pitch.
Now I’m acutely aware of my tone
and actually try to conjure up a
little Kelly with each delivery.
Recently, I got to meet with the vice
president of programing at CBS
Radio who chatted with me about
my range and inflection.
I’m tuned into the station more
than ever now and pay such close
attention whenever one of my spots
comes on.
It’s been super cool to hear them,
but I’ve definitely been analyzing
every word.
I recently took the initiative to set
up a meeting with a speech coach
to improve my diction.
Kelly has been so wonderful and
gracious with her advice and
support, but I know that there’s a
lot that I need to do to improve on
my own.
I’m actually super excited to begin
working with my new coach, and
improving not just my sound
on the radio, but with my work
as an actress, host and general
communication with others.
So while I may not be ready to host
my own radio show, it has been
such a thrill to just be in the studio,
working hard to get my voice radio
perfect, adding some amazing new
clips to my voice reel and watching
one of the best do her thing.
Every time I’m with her I’m having
a blast and learning something new.
Who could ask for more than that?
You’re not alone when it comes to shopping for the perfect bikini
or one-piece. The thought surrounding swimwear shopping can
be demanding, or at times, a bit disappointing. This kind of stress
allows us to put such a process off until the last possible minute.
From bad department-store lighting, to failed attempts from
ordering online all host an issue in the buying process. The largest
dilemma that women come across while swimsuit shopping is
being to visual, meaning, what you thought looked great on the
model is actually totally wrong on you.
In effort to remove that disheartening process begins with the
knowledge of your body shape and how to dress for it. Whether
you are busty or have a slender figure, prefer one piece or two, we
have the answers for your swim season ahead.
The Apple
For the woman with an apple-shaped
figure, this means your waistline is at
its widest from your hips and bust and
narrower in comparison. Most apple
body types should opt for a one-piece,
which is ideal, but be sure to choose
one that has a deep V-neck, accented
with a zipper or tie-strings to control
coverage. What this will do is flatter
your neck area providing a classy style.
The Slender
As you already know, if you have a
straight through silhouette that means
you typically have a slender figure. There
is no need to stress; this can be corrected
with the simple enhancement from
wearing an exaggerated sweetheart
neckline, ruched midsection, or graphic
print swimsuit. For your body-type it
will be perhaps the most enjoyable as
it allows you to play with a full range of
patterns and textures.
The Busty Girl
If you are a lady with a cup size larger
than a C then you’re indeed a busty girl,
and lucky in many ways to flaunt such
a shapely figure. The best solution for
you is to find swimwear that have builtin
underwire coverage and adjustable
straps. Search for brands such as J.
Crew, Soma, and Venus or simply do
a web-search for underwire swimwear
to find locations near you.
The Hourglass
One of the figures that looks
flattering and is made so frequently
manufactured is the hourglass. Due
to the waistline being the tiniest and
the remaining to be the opposite,
you will find a large inventory of
styles to choose from. Don’t get sidetracked
with a number of cutouts and
unnecessary silhouettes, just keep it
simple with a “classic” suit.
The Pear
This shape needs to focus on
accentuating their delicate upper
body, bringing attention to their arms,
shoulders and of course beautiful
face. If you have a smaller chest you
could utilize a Bandeaus paired with
a brief bottom, I find a retro styled
swimwear company such as Red
Dolly works perfectly complementing
a lady with a little more hip.
40 GODDESSES OF THE WOODS | PART II SWIMWEAR 101
According to the Diagnostic
and Statistical Manual of Mental
Disorders (DSM) latest version of
NPD a person needs to present
five or more of the following
symptoms:
1. Has a grandiose sense of
self-importance (exaggerates
achievements and talents, expects
to be recognized as superior without
commensurate achievements).
One of the hardest situations is
finding yourself interested in or
romantically involved with a person
who has NPD. There is usually not a
“happy ending” in this relationship
as the complexity of their symptoms
will eventually keep them from
being able to have normal conflict
resolution when problems arise.
a way that seems distant or cold.
They will no longer embody the
person they were at the beginning
of the relationship. In the beginning
is when they usually “love bomb”
(shower their interest with grand
gestures, promises or words of
being soul mates, etc.) their partner.
This can be an incredibly painful
2. Is preoccupied with fantasies of
success, power, brilliance beauty
or the ideal mate.
We live in a time where we are
encouraged to do what makes us
happy no matter the cost. With
this selfish mentality comes some
confusion. How can we tell the
difference between a person who
has self-absorbed tendencies
versus a person who is a narcissist?
To understand in full how to
differentiate between the two, I
think we need to discuss why it’s
important to actually have some
narcissistic traits.
During adolescence, having a
level of self-absorbed confidence
helps us come into our own. It
builds strength and teaches us
perseverance. It’s normal to have
selfish traits when we’re teenagers
because we’re learning who we are
and trying to stand out from the
shadows of our peers. However,
once adulthood has been reached
and a person finds it difficult
to create lasting friendships/
relationships, this could be a telltale
sign that there is something more
serious going on.
The symptoms of NPD (narcissistic
personality disorder) can be so
severe that they will always interfere
with your personal and professional
life because there is an inability
to recognize the needs of anyone
other than yourself. People who
are narcissists may find it difficult
to remain in the same place for too
long. Often they will find themselves
needing to relocate to avoid the
confrontations they’ve created at
work, with friends or in relationships
due to these narcissistic symptoms.
NPD is rare or may be perceived
as being rare due to the lack of
people who seek treatment for it.
It is a psychological disorder that
can be difficult to diagnose since
admitting to having these traits
would go against a narcissist’s
natural tendency to think highly of
themselves. It would mean having
to admit there is wrong doing on
their end and a need to rectify their
actions toward others. NPD affects
more males than females and can
begin during the teen years or
early adulthood.
3. Believes that he or she is
“special” and unique and can only
be understood or associate with
those who are just as special or
who are of a high-status.
4. Requires excessive admiration
especially by people in the
workplace and their current love
interest.
5. Has a sense of entitlement or
unreasonable expectations of
receiving favorable treatment or
automatic compliance with his or
her expectations.
6. Is interpersonally exploitative
or takes advantage of others to
achieve his or her own ends.
7. A lack of empathy and
unwillingness to recognize or
identify with the feelings and
needs of others.
8. Is envious or believes others are
envious of them.
9. Shows arrogant, haughty
behavior or attitudes.
They have a need for something
called NS (narcissistic supply). This
is the admiration, attention or
flirtation etc. they will receive from
a current suitor at the beginning of
a relationship. A person with NPD
will usually present themselves in a
charming, confident manner that will
appeal to and attract the opposite
sex. They usually will put their best
foot forward in the beginning to
receive the NS they need to ensure
their grandiose sense of self. At the
same time they will set this person
on an impossible pedestal to live
up to. Since a narcissist is unable to
take any type of criticism or show
empathy towards another’s needs,
the new relationship will come to
the same inevitable end as the rest.
When the narcissist has reached
the point of wanting out of a
relationship it is typical for them to
simply stop all communication in
and confusing situation to find
yourself in. There is usually a trail of
emotional destruction a narcissist
will leave behind them. If you take
the time to look at the red flags in
the beginning you may be able to
avoid this situation altogether.
It can be difficult and painful
dealing with someone with NPD as
well as being a person who has NPD
since the road is usually a lonely
one. If you believe you or someone
you know may have this disorder
the best route is to seek the help
of a medical professional. As of
now there is no medication to help
this disorder, but self-awareness
and therapy, along with medicine
for any depression or anxiety that
may accompany the disorder, could
prove to be very helpful.
The contest was open to new models.
For June, 15-year-old Alyssa of Morrisdale,
girls entered. As the contest went on, I was losing
Alyssa - The best advice I could
give to other girls like myself
trying to reach a goal is: “Never
give up no matter how impossible
it may seem. Life is like climbing
a mountain. You’re gonna fail and
come to bumps in your path, but
pick yourself up and continue. Be
