CONFIRMATIONS ON ST ALBAN’S DAY 2016
Our Diocesan Bishop, The Right
Reverend Dr Robert Innes, and his wife
Helen, paid his first visit to St Alban’s,
and indeed Copenhagen, on Sunday 19
June 2016
In what was his first official visit here
since his consecration in 2014, Bishop
Robert led us in our Saint Alban’s Day
celebrations and also presided at a
Service of Confirmation.
Over the preceding six weeks the
Chaplain and Lay Readers had prepared
five young people and one adult for this
important rite. For the Church of
England, confirmation marks the point
in the Christian journey when people affirm for themselves the faith into which
they have been baptized. This affirmation is confirmed through prayer and the
laying on of hands by the bishop.
As Bishop Robert said, “This is probably
the most important days in the lives of our
new confirmands. They have chosen this
moment themselves, and today they begin
their journey on the new path of their
Christian lives, within a safe, supportive
and loving congregation of whom they are
now an integral part.”
For the many parents and friends of the
confirmands it was a moving experience
to see the Bishop place his hands on their
heads and bless each one. For the
congregation it was a wonderful chance to
renew own vows along with those being
confirmed.
