Court summons
Shonekan’s son

LAGOS—AN Igbosere
Magistrate’s Court
yesterday ordered that a son
of Chief Ernest Shonekan,
former head of Nigeria's
Interim Government,
Adeboye, should appear
before the Court on the next
adjourned date of a matter he
instituted before it.
Magistrate Miss Olanike
Olagbende gave this order at
the resumed hearing of a case
over alleged entering of his
sitting room.
Olagbende said that a
witness summon should be
issued to Shonekan,
following his absence in court
during the hearing in a case
of breach of peace; he
instituted against two men.
She however adjourned the
case till September 21 for
mention.
The police had on May 5,
2016, arraigned two men,
Lucky Nwene, 38 and Friday
Obinna, 37, for allegedly
entering into the sitting room
of Shonekan without any
invitation.
The defendants were
docked on the charge of
breach of peace, preferred
against them by the police.

Nkrumah Leadership Award
of Integrity and Transparency
as the Most Outstanding
African Personality of the
Year.

Unit ) said; ‘’Badejo-
Okusanya was conferred
with the award in Lagos
recently by the ECOWAS
Youth Parliament (EYP). He
surpassed other nominees
from Liberia, Ghana and
Cape Verde to clinch the
award after being nominated
by the Nigerian Youth Forum.
‘’He was commended for
promoting African Image,
exemplary leadership,
distinct reputation
throughout his business
career. The award, titled
“Championing the Course of
the African Next Generation”,
has made him a Grand
Commander of the ECOWAS
Youth Parliament.’’
FACTIONALISATION: Police seal Lagos PDP secretariat

L AGOS—VIOLENCE
yesterday broke out at the
secretariat of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP in Lagos
State, which led to the seal-off of
the secretariat.
Vanguard gathered that fight
broke out when a faction loyal to
Senator Ali Modu Sheriff led by
Mr Segun Adewale invaded the
PDP secretariat situated around
Shogunle bus-stop.
In an effort to resist Adewale,
who was alleged to have led thugs
to the party secretariat, the other
faction led by Mr Moshood
Salvador engaged Adewale in a
free for all.
The pandemonium led to the
two factions shooting sporadically
and using matchetes on each
other, which led to some members
to sustain injuries in the fracas.
In a bid to douse the situation,
police officers were drafted to the
scene leading to the sealing of the
party secretariat.
Efforts to get across to the Police
Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of
Lagos State Command, Dolapo
Opeyemi Badmos proved abortive
as her phones were switched off.

meeting at the party secretariat, our
meeting started from 8 am. In the
course of our meeting, the Bode
George faction disrupted our
meeting and started shooting and
even matcheted some of our
people. As a result of that, I had to
call off the meeting. That was what
happened.”

BADAGRY—TO give the
ancient town of Badagry a
sense of belonging, Governor
Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday
made history, holding the State
Executive Council (SEC) meeting
for the first time at the VIP Chalet
in Badagry. He was accompanied
by members of the SEC.
Commenting on the
development, the Secretary to the
State Government, Mr. Tunji
Bello, said this was the first time,
that the state government would
be holding its Executive Council
meeting in Badagry.
This, according to him, was a
good sign of the visionary
leadership Governor Ambode was
providing in the State.
Also speaking, the
Commissioner for Information and
Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde,
reiterated the symbolism and
importance of the SEC meeting
Buhari, Osinbajo wives, Elumelu sign
women empowerment initiative
THE wife of the President, Mrs.
Aisha Buhari, wife of the Vice
President, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo and
leading African businessman, Tony
Elumelu, have signed a call-to-action
through partnership with The Tony
Elumelu Foundation and Africa’s global
bank, UBA, to empower Nigerian
women.
The initiative, which was brought to
bear at a forum and exhibition on
Nigerian Women in Export in Abuja, is
to connect one million women to the
international market by 2020.
Delivering the keynote address at the
forum, Mrs. Buhari said: ‘’Nigerian
women are extremely hardworking. We
need only a push and this is the time.
“I would like to lead a call to the Federal
Government to assign 20% of public
procurement to women-owned
businesses.”
Speaking at the forum, Chairman of
Heirs Holdings, United Bank for Africa
and Transcorp Plc, Mr. Tony Elumelu,
stated that the capacity of women in the
private sector to contribute to the
development of the country was
underestimated.
He validated this remark by sharing
the significant value created by the
female beneficiaries of the $100 million
Tony Elumelu Foundation
Entrepreneurship Programme, who are
impacting their communities in many
ways.
He said: “Africa is in need of
economic and social development
and investing in women is one of the
smartest ways to go about it.

told that Segun Adewale came to

only one party recognised by law
and that party is under the
leadership of Senator Ahmed
Makarfi as the caretaker
chairman. As a founding member
of this party, I belong to the
establishment of my party lineage.
I think we should ask Segun
Adewale, which of the PDP he
belongs to because the only
authentic PDP is under my party.
There is a court pronouncement
that confirms it, I don’t know
which party he is.”
