ABU boosts MBA education with e-learning
By Dayo Adesulu
IN its quest to boost MBA
education with e-learning,
Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria
has launched an online MBA
programme where examinations
could be written at designated
centres in Lagos, Abuja and
Zaria.
Director of the Distance
Learning Centre of the institution,
Prof. Adamu Zoaka Hassan in a
release explained that the
program was designed to allow
students to attend lectures without
coming to the physical campus.
He said the working class need
not quit their jobs as lectures
would be available electronically
on both the web platform and
mobile devices that can work even
offline to give the desired
flexibility needed to study at the
pace of the students.
He said: “The admission process
is also fully electronic and is done
on the website from application
to payments, to course
registration, to lectures. You do not
have to submit physical forms or
cash, everything can be done
digitally on the website -
www.abudlc.edu.ng. This is the
e-learning revolution where
learning is brought to the comfort
of the students.”
He added that after registration,
Do children even know it’s holiday?
Continues from page 37
For Mrs Monsurat Aiyegusi, a
mother of one and a teacher,
holiday periods, especially the
long vacation should be a time
children spend with their parents
and if possible, enrol the children
for holiday lessons.
The teacher who frowned at
parents that send their children
to relatives for vocation, said
experience has shown that when
they are made to go for holiday
in a relative's house, they are not
always reminded to study the way
they would have done in their
parent’s place.
Citing an example of her
growing years, Aiyegusi said that
when she was young, she and her
siblings were sent to an aunt who
maltreated them by sending them
on all forms of errands which
made them not to study their
books. “We were once taken to
spend the long vacation at an
each student would be provided
with a device to allow them
watch lecture videos, take
quizzes, submit assignments,
interact with their lecturers and
classmates, download and
upload assignments, and have
access to an endless collection
Lone sec sch renovated, gets more
classroom blocks
By Gabriel Enogholase
EFANDION, a rural
community in Uromi Kingdom,
Edo State, came alive recently
when the MD/CEO of Intercontinental
Distillers Ltd, Engr.
Patrick Anegbe, an indigene of
Efandion, constructed four blocks
of classrooms, staff room and
Principal’s office, equipped and
donated same to the Edo State
Government.
The only secondary school in
the village was one of the schools
founded by late Prof. Ambrose
Alli, former governor of defunct
Bendel State as part of the implementation
of the free education
policy of the then Unity Party
of Nigeria, that no child should
trek more than three kilometers
to access secondary education.
Over the years, due to the vagaries
of weather, the students
aunt's place. She never told us to
read our books. Instead we were
always doing one house chore or
the other . In fact, she injured me
on the left ear when I refused to
eat a leftover meal that had gotten
sour. This made our mum stop
us from going to spend the
holiday with anyone.”
Also speaking on best ways to
spend the third term break, a
lecturer, Mr. Suliemon Hassan
Biodun of School of Mass
Communication, Lagos State
University, Ojuelegba Campus,
said holiday period is meant for
parents to assess their wards and
see how to engage them in other
areas aside schooling.
The scholar added that
children, naturally endowed with
three domain of knowledge in
cognitive, affective and
pyschomotor, needed to be
engaged in community service
like cleaning the drainage,
of books from the e-library.
Besides, he said for students
who would be interested in
getting financial assistance, an
arrangement had already been
made with financial institutions
on how to provide low interest
education loan to them.
to study in an unwholesome environment.
At the commissioning ceremony,
Anegbe said he decided
to embark on the project to celebrate
his people who nurtured
him in his life's journey.
“Over the years, I have learnt
that education is the yoke that
breaks the bondage of illiteracy.
Therefore I felt the best legacy to
bequeath to the children of my
community is education, thus
necessitating my action to execute
this fully furnished block of four
classrooms, staff room and Principal’s
office.
“My belief is that you may give
silver and gold but these have
temporary sustainability but if you
give a child a good education,
you have given that child enduring
and sustainable foundation
in life."
planting of trees, training in
horticulture, career talk,
choreography, drumming
session, dancing and piano
session, cake and pastries,
swimming workshop, skipping
and kinetics training.
His words: ”Children, especially
adolescents, are naturally
endowed with raw energy and
life. They are always inquisitive ,
looking forward to ways and
opportunities to dissipate their
raw potentials.”
Mrs Onyinyechi Ukazu, a
mother, said she is happy that the
children will be on holidays soon
as that will afford her some time
to rest. “No more waking up very
early to prepare them for school.
They will rest for a month and then
go for holiday classes before they
resume. The good thing is that as
children play, they also learn, so
it doesn't have to be in the
classroom alone."
