Abuja preacher's murder must be<br />
thoroughly investigated—SENATE<br />

ABUJA—THE<br />
<strong>Senate</strong>,<br />
yesterday, condemned <strong>the</strong><br />
weekend murder of <strong>the</strong><br />
Redeemed Christian Church of<br />
God, RCCG, preacher,<br />
Deaconess Eunice Mojisola<br />
Olawale, during evangelism in<br />
Kubwa, a suburb of Abuja, <strong>the</strong><br />
Federal Capital Terri<strong>to</strong>ry, FCT.<br />
The <strong>Senate</strong> urged police and<br />
o<strong>the</strong>r security agencies <strong>to</strong><br />
intensify investigation, arrest<br />
and prosecute <strong>the</strong> culprits, just<br />
as it asked governments at all<br />
levels <strong>to</strong> provide more security<br />
facilities, such as closed-circuit<br />
television, CCTV, all over <strong>the</strong><br />
country.<br />
The <strong>Senate</strong> also observed a<br />
minute silence in honour of <strong>the</strong><br />
deceased and prayed that such<br />
should not occur again,<br />
especially <strong>the</strong> kind of killing<br />
which left <strong>the</strong> widower with<br />
seven children.<br />
The <strong>Senate</strong> recalled that<br />
Eunice Olawale had been in<strong>to</strong><br />
early morning preaching for<br />
years without complaints from<br />
any quarters, and expressed<br />
pains that “as she was being<br />

He said <strong>the</strong> Lagos State<br />

Fatai Owoseni, has directed that<br />
<strong>the</strong> suspect be charged <strong>to</strong> court.<br />

In her presentation, Sena<strong>to</strong>r<br />
<strong>Tinubu</strong> noted that unwarranted<br />
killings were becoming rampant<br />
in <strong>the</strong> country.<br />

LAGOS—A middle-aged<br />
man, yesterday, met his<br />
waterloo while attempting <strong>to</strong><br />
steal recharge cards worth<br />
N44,000 from a female vendor<br />
at a complex around Bode<br />
Thomas area of Lagos State.<br />
The suspect was<br />
apprehended, beaten up and<br />
taken <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> police station.<br />
According <strong>to</strong> an eyewitness,<br />
Temi<strong>to</strong>pe Ajayi: “The suspect,<br />
who was well dressed, <strong>to</strong>ld <strong>the</strong><br />
young lady selling recharge<br />
cards that he owned an office in<br />
<strong>the</strong> complex and one of <strong>the</strong><br />
parked Sport Utility Vehicles.<br />
“He <strong>to</strong>ok all <strong>the</strong> lady's recharge<br />
cards and asked her <strong>to</strong> sit<br />
somewhere in <strong>the</strong> compound <strong>to</strong><br />
saddened by <strong>the</strong> unfortunate<br />
incident which leaves <strong>the</strong><br />
widower with seven children.<br />
“The <strong>Senate</strong> observes that<br />
unwarranted killings are<br />
becoming rampant in Nigeria.<br />

ano<strong>the</strong>r life of a citizen as<br />
enshrined in Chapter Four,<br />
Sections 33, 38, 39 and 41 of<br />
<strong>the</strong> Constitution of <strong>the</strong> Federal<br />
Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as<br />
amended).<br />
“The <strong>Senate</strong> commiserates<br />
with <strong>the</strong> widower, Pas<strong>to</strong>r<br />
Elisha Olawale and <strong>the</strong> seven<br />
children left behind by <strong>the</strong><br />
deceased.<br />

“He was <strong>the</strong>n given a light<br />
beating and has since been<br />
handed over <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bode<br />
Thomas Police Unit.”<br />
Confirming <strong>the</strong> incident,<br />
“The <strong>Senate</strong> urge members<br />
of <strong>the</strong> public <strong>to</strong> always<br />
respond <strong>to</strong> distress calls, at<br />
least calling emergency police<br />
numbers where <strong>the</strong>y cannot<br />
physically intervene.”<br />
In his remarks, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Senate</strong><br />
President, Dr. Bukola Saraki,<br />
said: “In line with our rules,<br />
<strong>the</strong>re can be no fur<strong>the</strong>r<br />
debate. I think that this case<br />
is one that is of great<br />
concern <strong>to</strong> all of us.”<br />
He added that <strong>the</strong> security<br />
agencies must do all <strong>the</strong>y can<br />
<strong>to</strong> get <strong>the</strong> culprits and find a<br />
way of bringing an end <strong>to</strong><br />
this kind of unwarranted<br />
killings.<br />

<strong>the</strong>mselves, and in <strong>the</strong> course<br />
of <strong>the</strong> clash, one of <strong>the</strong> cultists<br />
was killed,” a source who<br />
craved anonymity said.<br />
According <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> source,<br />
members of <strong>the</strong> deceased’s<br />
cultist’s group went on<br />
rampage, invaded <strong>the</strong> home<br />
of <strong>the</strong> former vigilante team<br />

with some sharp objects.<br />

Sogbaike, has said that <strong>the</strong><br />
student whose corpse was<br />
found at <strong>the</strong> institution’s<br />
staff quarters junction on<br />
Saturday, July 2, had<br />
been away from school for<br />
about two weeks and<br />
came back a day before<br />
her dead body was found.<br />
The student, Miss<br />
Oritsegbubemi Udu, an<br />
ND II student of <strong>the</strong><br />
institution, was found<br />
dead with white<br />
substances oozing from<br />
her mouth.<br />
Dr. Sogbaike, in a<br />
statement by <strong>the</strong><br />
institution’s Public<br />
Relations Officer,<br />
Wilberforce Ofo<strong>to</strong>kun,<br />
said: “The student was<br />
said <strong>to</strong> have been away<br />
from school for about two<br />
weeks and came back on<br />
Friday, July I, at <strong>the</strong> end<br />
of <strong>the</strong> student week.<br />
“She left again, in <strong>the</strong><br />
same car that brought her,<br />
after dropping her<br />
luggage that evening<br />
only for her corpse <strong>to</strong> be<br />
found off campus in <strong>the</strong><br />
morning of <strong>the</strong> next day.<br />
Till now, no<br />
representative of <strong>the</strong><br />
family has come <strong>to</strong> inform<br />
<strong>the</strong> management of <strong>the</strong><br />
institution of <strong>the</strong><br />
incidence.”<br />
Meanwhile, <strong>the</strong><br />

Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG,<br />
and National Association<br />
of Itsekiri Students, NAIS,<br />
have petitioned <strong>the</strong><br />
Deputy Inspec<strong>to</strong>r General<br />
of Police, Force Criminal<br />
Investigation and<br />
Intelligence Department<br />
over <strong>the</strong> mysterious death<br />
of <strong>the</strong> student owing <strong>to</strong><br />
what <strong>the</strong>y referred <strong>to</strong> as<br />
<strong>the</strong> lacklustre manner <strong>the</strong><br />
police in <strong>the</strong> division is<br />
handling <strong>the</strong> case.<br />

petitions, which were<br />
signed by <strong>the</strong>ir counsel,<br />
