A recently married woman<br />

chose to end her life by hanging<br />

herself at her paternal house at<br />

Housing Board Colony in Mandya<br />

on Thursday. Likhita (24)<br />

was married to Shashank, a<br />

resident of Vidyaranyapuram<br />

just three months ago. She was<br />

staying with the parents as<br />

part of the ‘Ashada Masa’ custom.<br />

On the day of the incident,<br />

Likhita did not open her room<br />

till noon. Family members who<br />

grew suspicious found her<br />

hanging herself to the ceiling<br />

fan in the room. Likhita was<br />

an engineering graduate and<br />

her husband, Shahank is a software<br />

engineer. The reason for<br />

such extreme step is yet to be<br />

known.<br />

ROOF OF JMFC COURT<br />

CRASHES<br />

The roof of the second additional<br />

JMFC court hall located<br />

in the premises of the district<br />

and session’s court at Belagavi<br />

crashed in the early hours on<br />

Thursday.<br />

The wall of the building appeared<br />

to be fine but the RCC<br />

roof where water had accumulated<br />

due to heavy rain since<br />

the last some days. The wall<br />

had absorbed moisture. Luckily<br />

the court was not in session<br />

when the incident happened.<br />

It has been 40 years since this<br />

court hall was built. As soon as<br />

the information was received,<br />

district and sessions judge ordered<br />

suspension of proceedings<br />

in second additional JMFC<br />

court. It is informed that the<br />

court will function in seventh<br />

additional court the hall of the.<br />

FROM AN ELDERLY<br />

WOMEN<br />

A 58-year-old Kamalamma<br />

lost her 60 gram gold chain at<br />

Gokulam Mysuru. Two men on<br />

the bike approached her on the<br />

pretext of asking address. The<br />

pillion rider tried to snatch<br />

chain from her neck. Kamalamma<br />

who in her reflex action,<br />

latch on to her chain and part<br />

of it remained in her hand as<br />

the chain split into two parts.<br />

She immediately alerted the<br />

passersby. Bikers managed to<br />

escape before the public came<br />

to her rescue. A case has been<br />

registered at VV Puram police<br />

station and investigation is in<br />

progress. It may be recalled<br />

that few cops were suspended<br />

recently for dereliction of duty<br />

as Mysuru witnessed series of<br />

chain snatching incidents in<br />

the recent past.<br />

SSLC SUPPLEMENTARY<br />

EXAMINATION RESULTS<br />

OUT<br />

Result of the supplementary<br />

SSLC examination conducted<br />

during June this year<br />

was announced on Thursday.<br />

Out of 1, 75,<strong>18</strong>7 students who<br />

appeared for the examination,<br />

45,657 comprising mere 26.07<br />

percent among them, could<br />

clear the examinations. The<br />

students can apply for recounting<br />

of marks and xerox copies<br />

of answer sheets between <strong>July</strong><br />

15 and 25. They can apply for<br />

revaluation of answer sheets<br />

within seven days of the receipt<br />

of xerox copies. For recounting<br />

marks, fee of Rs. 150<br />

per subject has been fixed. For<br />

xerox copies, Rs. 300 has to<br />

be remitted, while Rs. 700 has<br />

been fixed for revaluation, said<br />

after he came to<br />

know that an FIR has<br />

and four others by a person<br />

named Tejas Gowda.<br />

Tejas, along with 23<br />

others, was nabbed on<br />

charges of gambling,<br />

hours before he alleged<br />

that he was kidnapped<br />

on June 28 and Handibag<br />

was behind his<br />

kidnapping.<br />

One of Handibag’s<br />

colleague said,“He was<br />

very sensitive and<br />

couldn’t bear the media<br />

onslaught on him.<br />

The Criminal Investigation<br />

Department (CID),<br />

which is investigating<br />

the abetment (of his suicide)<br />

case under Section<br />

306 of the Indian Penal<br />

Code (IPC) is trying to<br />

find out whether the<br />

deceased officer was<br />

indeed involved in the<br />

heinous crime of kidnap<br />

and ransom or there was<br />

someone else behind<br />

this. The chain of events<br />

is seemingly suspicious<br />

because Handibag was<br />

never before accused of<br />

corruption. Was he a victim<br />

of the huge gambling<br />

mafia in Chikmagaluru,<br />

is for the CID to investigate.<br />

But what is reportedly<br />

emerging is that he<br />

couldn’t withstand the<br />

media trial and was unable<br />

to see his image being<br />

tarnished in public.”<br />

According to reports,<br />

the CID sleuths who are<br />

probing the case have<br />

found several discrepancies<br />

in the allegations<br />

made by Tejas, who had<br />

accused Handibag of<br />

kidnapping him and releasing<br />

him after he was<br />

reportedly paid a ransom<br />

of Rs 10 lakh.<br />

CCTV CAMERAS TO BE INSTALLED<br />

AT KSRTC BUS STATIONS<br />

(KSRTC) has<br />

initiated the process of<br />

installing closed-circuit<br />

television (CCTV) cameras<br />

in all its depots and<br />

bus stations across the<br />

State. The corporation<br />

has formed a committee<br />

of senior officers to finalise<br />

the specifications<br />

It has been reported<br />

that Congress national<br />

president, Sonia Gandhi,<br />

has conveyed her decision<br />

vesting discretionary<br />

power with Karnataka<br />

Chief Minister (CM),<br />

Siddaramaiah, on the issue<br />

of dropping of minister,<br />

K J George, relating<br />

to the suicide of Deputy<br />

Superintendent of Police,<br />

M K Ganapati.<br />

George, it is said, is<br />

also close to party’s national<br />

leadership. The<br />

high command has been<br />

for the products to be<br />

installed. B.N.S. Reddy,<br />

Director for Security<br />

and Vigilance (KSRTC),<br />

during his recent visit to<br />

the city, had discussed<br />

on how to beef up security.<br />

He said that the KS-<br />

RTC would install CCTV<br />

keeping watch over the<br />

to the issue and collecting<br />

George dismissed<br />

the reports as media<br />

had two demonstrations<br />

on the functioning of<br />

CCTV cameras sourced<br />

from different manufacturers.<br />

for high-quality products<br />

with good night vision<br />

features. Based on<br />

the committee’s report,<br />

the KSRTC board will call<br />

for the tender and invite<br />

quotations,” Reddy<br />

mayor of the Bruhat Bangalore<br />

Mahanagara Palike.<br />

the order on an appeal<br />

filed by Manjunath Raju, a<br />

BJP candidate who was defeated<br />

on the delay in filling the<br />

appeal against the November<br />

27, 2015 verdict of the<br />

single-judge bench. The Division<br />

Bench also ordered<br />

BILL TO PREVENT OPENING OF OPEN<br />

UNIVERSITY OUTSIDE KARNATAKA<br />

The State Legislative Assembly<br />

amended the Karnataka<br />

State Open University<br />

(Amendment) Bill, <strong>2016</strong>,<br />

on Thursday, to prevent the<br />

university from opening of<br />

centres outside Karnataka.<br />

The Bill removed the provisions<br />

regarding opening<br />

of centres outside the State<br />

by the University as it contradicted<br />

the instructions<br />

issued by the University<br />

Grants Commission regarding<br />

jurisdiction of university<br />

and the provisions of<br />

Article 245 of the Constitution,<br />

which was reiterated<br />

by the Supreme Court in the<br />

case of Prof.Yashpalvs state<br />

of Chattisgarh. The Bill was<br />

passed on Thursday and<br />

it amended the KSOU Act,<br />

1996, for restricting the<br />

university to stick to its territorial<br />

jurisdiction while<br />

running its courses as the<br />

KSOU had stretched its programmes<br />

beyond the State<br />

citing the Act that permitted<br />

it to open study centers<br />

outside the State.<br />

NARESH SHENOY NOT WILLING TO<br />

UNDERGO NARCO TEST<br />

In a recent development,<br />

Naresh Shenoy, the prime<br />

accused in RTI activist<br />

Vinayaka Balilga’s murder<br />

has reportedly not given<br />

his consent for undergoing<br />

narco analysis.<br />

As per norms, narco<br />

analysis could be performed<br />

only with consent<br />

and cannot be forced on an<br />

individual. There is no provision<br />

to allow the accused<br />

to be subjected to this test<br />

without his consent.<br />

The investigators had<br />

filed an application before<br />

the court seeking permission<br />

to conduct narco analysis,<br />

polygraph and brain<br />

mapping tests on Naresh<br />

Shenoy.<br />

The officials probing<br />

the murder case had filed<br />

application in the court<br />

to subject Shenoy to Narco-analysis<br />

procedures so<br />

that crucial details pertaining<br />

to case could be procured.<br />

However, since the<br />

accused has refused to face<br />

the test, the possibilities of<br />

the investigating officers<br />

getting an upper hand are<br />

rather bleak.<br />

It has transpired that in<br />

a similar case in the city,<br />

the concerned had agreed<br />

to undergo narco analysis<br />

in connection with double<br />

murder case at Panjimogaru.<br />

Husband and brother<br />

of the deceased woman had<br />

offered themselves to be<br />

subjected to these procedures,<br />

but they have not so<br />

far been put through these<br />

tests, it is learnt.<br />

Vinayak Baliga was murdered<br />

on the morning of<br />

March 21 this year. Six persons<br />

were earlier arrested<br />

in connection to the case.<br />

The main conspirator and<br />

prime accused Naresh Shenoy<br />

was arrested on June<br />

26, putting an end to his<br />

three month long run.<br />

OVER 2000 VEHICLES <strong>CH</strong>ECKED AND 134<br />

DRIVERS BOOKED AT CUBBON PARK<br />

To curb pollution,<br />

over 2,000 vehicles were<br />

checked and 134 drivers<br />

booked at Cubbon Park<br />

on Thursday. Several officials<br />

of the Karnataka State<br />

Pollution Control Board<br />

(KSPCB) on Thursday inspected<br />

buildings within<br />

Cubbon Park, the city’s biggest<br />

lung space, to ensure<br />

that pollution control measures<br />

were adequately employed.<br />

“Open burning of<br />

solid waste was seen on the<br />

premises of Bal Bhavan and<br />

brought to the attention of<br />

its chairperson Bhavana.<br />

Ms. Bhavanna said that immediate<br />

action would be<br />

taken to ensure segregation<br />

of solid waste,” a Karnataka<br />

State Pollution Control<br />

Board said to media.<br />

During a joint drive, the<br />

transport department and<br />

the Karnataka State Pollution<br />

Control Board (KSP-<br />

CB) officials found that<br />

some vehicles were not<br />

just highly polluting but<br />

also had invalid emission<br />

test certificates. According<br />

to KSPCB chairman Lakshman,<br />

faulty emission testing<br />

was taking place in the<br />

petrol pump adjacent to the<br />

Cubbon Park police station.<br />

checks at various centres<br />

in the city to ensure quality<br />

and accuracy. The transport<br />

department has also<br />

asked vehicle owners to ensure<br />

emission certificates<br />

are obtained from only authorized<br />

testing centres.<br />

Canteen dumping waste<br />

A Karnataka State Tourism<br />

Development Corporation<br />

(KSTDC) canteen,<br />

which was discharging<br />

plastic straws and kitchen<br />

waste into drains, was<br />

asked to stop immediately.<br />

Emission centres<br />

Vehicular emission testing<br />

centres in fuel stations<br />

were also part of the inspection<br />

on Thursday.<br />

It was found that there<br />

were only three petrol vehicles<br />

that had failed checks<br />

at a particular centre while<br />

the number of vehicles<br />

caught during enforcement<br />

drives was higher.<br />

In order to keep a check<br />

on the emission centres,<br />

KSPCB will carry out random<br />

checks on these<br />

centres in the future, Mr.<br />

Lakshman said.
