A van hit the school bus of a local higher secondary private school from behind on Friday morning, a police official said. Ten students were seriously injured. They were admitted to the Alipurduar district hospital. The driver of the pick-up van fled with the vehicle, he said. Three, Including SSB jawan, Killed in Accident Three persons, including an SSB jawan, were killed when their bike was hit by a truck near Sadatpur village in Ganjipur area, police said on Friday. The jawan, Jitendra Kushwaha (25), along with his companions, Ibrar Khan (22) and Sunil Kumar Kushwaha (24), were killed on the spot. Police said they are trying to trace the truck driver who fled from the spot after the incident. Mamata Banerjee, President Mukherjee Survive Scare after Car of their Convoy Falls off in Gorge At least six people were injured after a car in West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s convoy fell into a gorge in Gorabari near Sonada in Darjeeling hills on Friday. President Pranab Mukherjee was also accompanying Mamata Banerjee when the incident took place. State governor Kesarinath Tripathi was also in the convoy. However, both of them did not sustain any injuries and are reported to be safe. It is reported that five security personnel of President Mukherjee, who were in the first escort, are among the six injured in the accident. The incident took place when the convoy was on its way to the Bagdogra Airport. NHRC Seeks Report from Centre, Odisha Govt. Over Death of Five Tribals The National Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the centre as well as the Odisha Government after taking suo motu cognizance of the incident where death of five innocent tribals in Kandhamal has been reported. The commission has given a time of two weeks to submit the report. NHRC Secretary General SN Mohanty said that under Section 19 of Protection of Human Rights Act, the commission has sought reports from both the Union Home Ministry and Government on the incident. Condemning the attack, President Mukherjee said, “India stands shoulder to shoulder with the people and Government of France.” “I am shocked to hear about the terrorist attack on an innocent crowd of people gathered to celebrate the Bastille Day in Nice, France. I strongly condemn the perpetrators of the terrorist attack in France,” President Mukherjee said in a series of tweets. “We will strengthen our cooperation with France and other countries in the fight against terrorism. Heartfelt condolences to families of bereaved; prayers for speedy recovery of injured in attack,” he added. Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Modi said, “Appalled by the horrific attack in Nice. I strongly condemn such mindless acts of violence. My thoughts are with the families of deceased. I hope the injured recover soon. India shares the pain and stands firmly with our French sisters and brothers in this hour of immense sadness.” Congress president Sonia Gandhi also condemned the attack, saying it reflects deep resentment to peace and democratic values. “The Congress party stands firmly with the people of France in these difficult times,” she said. In a statement, Gandhi expressed deepest condolences to the families of those killed and called for “strict action” and “harshest punishment” against those who are behind these attacks. Just hours after announcing in the traditional Bastille Day interview that the state of emergency, in place since November attacks that killed 130 in Paris, was to be removed, France President Hollande said it must be extended for three months. “The attack was ‘undeniably’ of a ‘terrorist nature’. The state of emergency that was implemented in the awake of the November terror attacks in Paris and was supposed to end on July 26 will be extended by another three months,” said President Hollande. The President said France would “again reinforce its (military) action in Iraq and Syria”. “France as a whole is under the threat of Islamic terrorism. We have to demonstrate absolute vigilance and show determination that is unfailing,” says Hollande, who announced that he would visit Nice on Friday to express his support for the city. Since the November 13th terror attacks in Paris, France had been under a State of Emergency, and authorities were on high alert due to UEFA Euro 2016, the European men’s football championship taking place. Meanwhile, the truck driver has been identified as Nice Matin, a man of Tunisian origin from Nice. His identity papers were found in the cab of the lorry, source said. The man, believed to be 31, fired on crowds of people before he was shot dead by police. Source added Residents have been told to stay indoors as the emergency services work at the scene. Dr. Jarangal, an IAS officer of the Punjab cadre (2009 batch), is currently the Deputy Commissioner at Sri Muktsar Sahib and hails from the Talab Tillo area of Jammu. This young bureaucrat’s achievements and work ethic has become an inspiration for the youth of the region. Punjab has a culture that is similar to Jammu and many people from Jammu birth anniversary celebrations of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader, late K Kamaraj. “We should fight with the Centre for funds and I am adopting the strategy Prime Minister Narendra Modi had adopted during his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister to fight and get funds from the Centre,” he said. The Indian Postal Department began sale of ‘Gangajal’ water for religious purposes on Monday under a new scheme launched by the Centre. In today’s era, which we describe as globalization and liberalization, the whole world is connected. Here, in Punjab, almost every household has its member settled abroad. Under a Centre-sponsored scheme, holy water- drawn from two river sources at Gangotri and Rishikesh in the northern Uttarakhand Dr. Jarangal believes things are changing for the better. As more and more youths from the state make their mark in the civil services examinations, he hopes barriers holding them back will weaken and allow them to aspire to a better life. “In recent years, you may have seen the trend of many people from Jammu and Kashmir joining the civil services. Some of them have even got very good ranks. This year’s second rank holder is also from Jammu and Kashmir. So, I believe, if there was any barrier, it is mental rather than what we assume is a part of society,” he said. Dr. Jarangal and many other youths from Jammu and Kashmir are gradually coming into the limelight because of their dedication and sincerity towards serving the country. Steps have to be taken to tap this rich human resource in Jammu and Kashmir and ensure all facilities are available to them. (ANI) Stating his government was “sandwiched” between the Centre and also the new Lt Governor Kiran Bedi, the Chief Minister said “we should, however, play a safe and tactful role to bring round both so that Puducherry would go ahead with various developmental programmes.” He said Puducherry government would face an additional expenditure of Rs 500 crore by implementing recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission to benefit the employees here. “We would not get the funds by being in Puducherry without putting forth stubbornly our requirements before the Centre,” he said. Tyagi on Friday said if given any more space, the situation might turn worse giving Pakistan further opportunity to cash in on it. Talking about black money, he said, “Even after SIT submitting its fifth report on black money case, the centre has failed to initiate any action.” Welcoming the release of Hardik Patel, Tyagi said, “Several people from patel community died because of Gujarat’s government ruthlessness and because of this unemployment and law and order situation in Gujarat was also surfaced.” (ANI) 152 INDIANS LAND SAFELY IN THIRUVANANTHAPU- RAM FROM WAR-TORN SOUTH SUDAN The Indian Air Force aircraft C-17 carrying Indian citizens from war-torn South Sudan landed at Thiruvananthapuram on Friday. The evacuation operation named as ‘ Sankat Mochan’ is being headed by Minister of State for External Affairs General (Retd.) VK Singh. In a tweet External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said that both the aircrafts will be reaching Delhi via Thiruvananthapuram. In a series of tweets, Swaraj further stated that Indian Air Force is carrying out the operation along with the Indian Railways and Air India, who will facilitate the onward journey. “Indian Railways and Air India will facilitate their onward journey,” she tweeted. “Indian Air Force is carrying out OP,” she tweeted. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson Vikas Swarup in a tweet said, the first aircraft has 143 Indian citizens including 10 women and three infants. The second aircraft is carrying nine Indian nationals and two Nepalese citizens as reportedly said by the Indian Ambassador in South Sudan, Srikumar Menon. South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has ordered a ceasefire after days of intense fighting in Juba which left more than 150 dead and many more injured since fighting broke out on Thursday. The ceasefire announcement came as United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon called on the Security Council to impose an “immediate arms embargo” and targeted sanctions on leaders and commanders blocking implementation of the peace deal. There was renewed fighting between the government and former rebel forces since Thursday in Juba. The latest exchanges were apparently sparked by a shootout between President Kiir’s and Vice President Riek Machar’s bodyguards. (ANI) PAKISTAN BEHIND KASHMIR UNREST: PANTHERS PARTY Taking strong exception to Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto calling up separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to express his solidarity with the people of Kashmir amid the ongoing unrest, the National Panthers Party (NPP) on Friday said it makes it clear that Pakistan is behind the current state of affairs in Jammu and Kashmir. NPP chairman Harsh Dev Singh said the international community must take note of interference of Pakistan in the internal affairs of India. “It becomes evidently clear that Pakistan is behind all that is happening in Jammu and Kashmir. It has been fermenting trouble since beginning. Now that Bilawal Bhutto has called up Mirwaiz amply goes to show that Pakistan is behind violence in Kashmir,” he told the media. Sources say that Bhutto told Mirwaiz that after Friday prayers, solidarity marches would be taken out across Pakistan to express solidarity with Kashmiris. “Spoke to @MirwaizKashmir & expressed condolences, condemnation & solidarity with the people of #Kashmir,” Bhutto tweeted. Mirwaiz, meanwhile, appreciated Bhutto’s concern for Kashmir. “Appreciate the support & concern of the people of Pakistan and their leadership @ BBhuttoZardari,” Mirwaiz tweeted in response. (ANI) HARDIK PATEL RELEASED AFTER NINE MONTHS Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leader Hardik Patel, who was arrested on sedition charges, was on Friday released from the Lajpore Central Jail after nine months amid rousing welcome by his supporters. The district administration, meanwhile, has imposed Section 144 (of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in the region to ensure that no untoward incident takes place in the wake of his release. Patel was granted bail on Friday last by the Gujarat High Court in both sedition cases against him. However, one of the conditions of the bail was that he would not be permitted to enter Gujarat for the next six months. The other condition was that he would have to file an undertaking. Patel had been booked with sedition charges on October 19 over his provocative remarks where he had asked his supporters to kill policemen rather than commit suicide for the cause of reservation. Patel was arrested and imprisoned in a jail in Surat after he led a huge revolt of the Patidar community against the ruling BJP Government in the state. Patel’s arrest was followed by large-scale arson and violence by his supporters in some of Gujarat’s biggest towns. (ANI)

The court rejected the list as the Army provided a list of LTTE surrendees, who have been rehabilitated but the petitions have been filed on behalf of the LTTE surrendees, who went missing after they surrendered to the security forces. During a hearing to address the Habeas Corpus petitions filed on behalf of the missing LTTE surrendees, the court also ordered the army to provide a list of the surrendees mentioned in the petitions at the next date. Thousands of men, who were associated with the LTTE surrendered to the security forces at the end of the war as they were given assurance that their lives, along with their families, would be safe. Pak calls Burhan Wani ‘martyr’, to observe July 19 as ‘Black Day’ On the call of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Shariff , the Federal Cabinet on Friday decided that the country will observe July 19 as ‘Black Day’ against the Indian “barbarism in the Kashmir Valley. “The decision was made at a special Cabinet meeting preceded over by Prime Minister Sharif, who on Friday termed the movement of Kashmiris as a ‘movement of freedom’ in Lahore, source said. B’desh Clerics Deliver Anti-terrorism Sermon at Friday Prayers Clerics on Friday delivered an identical sermon in hundreds of thousands of mosques across Bangladesh condemning terrorism as part of a beefed-up campaign to combat extremism in the wake of recent terror attacks in the country. The clerics read out a two-page special sermon ahead of the weekly Friday prayers denouncing violence and extremism in the name of religion citing verses from the Holy Quran and sayings of the Prophet, officials said. “Whoever kills a person unjustly, it is as though he has killed all mankind,” it read, citing a verse from the Quran. Pak Military Pressurising Sharif to Malign India: Former Diplomat Former diplomat N.N. Jha on Friday rubbished Pakistan’s assertion that ‘excessive brutalities’ is being exerted by the Indian armed forces to control the violent protests in Kashmir. He, however, lauded India’s permanent representative to United Nations Syed Akbaruddin for giving a befitting reply to the Asian neighbour. “The decision to keep on agitating in all the international fora about Kashmir and try to malign India by talking about the so-called ‘excessive brutalities’ so on and so forth is absolutely rubbish and I think our Permanent Representative has been pretty orchestrative and gave a very good reply,” he said. Ten children were among the dead after the driver hit people celebrating Bastille Day along the famous Promenade Des Anglais. Fifty more children are being treated at the children’s hospital in Nice, some with “life and death” injuries. Video footage shows police trying to stop the lorry before it picks up speed, slamming into revellers at the end of a fireworks display. A motorcyclist who tried to block the lorry was run over, witnesses said. TERROR ATTACKS IN FRANCE IN 21ST CENTURY In the first 16 years of the 21st century, France has been a victim of 17 terror-related incidents, the latest being on Thursday evening, when, a truck driver equipped with weapons and hand grenades, mowed down at least 80 people in the resort city of Nice during a Bastille Day celebratory fireworks display. Following is a list of terror attacks in France between 2003 and 2016: July 14, 2016: Around 80 killed and several others injured in Nice terror attack. 13 June 2016: Magnanville stabbing, a police officer and his wife, a police secretary, were stabbed to death in their home in Magnanville by a jihadist. Terror outfit ISIS had claimed responsibility for the attack. 7 January 2016: A jihadist wearing a fake explosive belt attacked police officers in the Goutte d’Or district in Paris with a meat cleaver, while shouting “Allahu Akbar”. He was shot dead and one policeman receiving injuries. The ISIS flag, and a clearly written claim in Arabic, were found on the attacker. 1 January 2016: WOULD ASK CONGRESS FOR DECLARATION OF WAR ON ISIS: TRUMP Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Friday said if elected he would go to Congress and seek declaration of war against the Islamic State terror group and would involve NATO in the effort. “I would. He said he synchronized his attacks with the Kouachi brothers. Coulibaly had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. French President Francois Hollande described the attack as a “monstrous terrorist act”. He declared three days of national mourning, beginning on Saturday. PAKISTAN MISUSING US FUND TO PROMOTE TERRORISM, REVEALS EX-AFGHAN SPY A former Afghanistan spy has disclosed classified documents, which reveal that the money provided by the United States Government to the Pakistan military for fighting terrorism is being spent by the country’s intelligence agency, ISI, for promoting and supporting terrorism. According to documents released by Rahmatullah Nabil, former chief of Afghan Spy Agency, the National Directorate of Security (NDS), Islamabad “strikes only those insurgents who threaten its interests”. According to the sources, Nabil has claimed that the ISI systematically supports terrorist groups, while pointing out that Pakistan has for long been funding terrorist organisations, particularly the Haqqani network. According to one of the documents leaked by Nabil, an “official letter dated July 2014 from the central office of the ISI in Islamabad was sent to MI-422 office in Swaba and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in which it directed the office to thank that the people that succeeded in plotting the attack on Kabul Airport (now Hamid Karzai International Airport) and gave 2.5 million Pakistani rupees to every one of the following: Haji Khalil Haqqani, Haji Hakim Woluswal, Qari Zahir Shah and Mawlawi Hakim. Moreover, the office was directed to donate 1.5 million Pakistani rupees to the families of those that were involved in the attack.” Reportedly, insurgents had attacked the Kabul International Airport a day before this letter was issued. According to another document, the ISI 945 office in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in an official note dated April 6, 2015 to the central office in Islamabad wrote, “Officials of 945 office, in a meeting with Toryalai, the head of the network and his co-fighters on April 5, 2015, were tasked to kidnapped and kill Afghanistan’s Shia leaders in Herat, Kabul and Farah. In addition, they gave 2 million Pakistani rupees to the participant in that meeting.” In the note, it was mentioned that 23 people from Toryalai’s group, who were busy with military training in Cherat, had completed their training. According to another document from regional office in Peshawar to central command center in Rawalpindi, a Pakistani colonel wrote, “I want to inform you that a meeting was held between Hafiz Gul Bahaduri of Hafiz Gul Bahadur Group with the commander of Afghan Taliban Maulavi Hamdullah. The main purpose of the meeting was to provide rented houses to leaders of Afghan Taliban in Hayat Abad and Tahkal of Peshawar who have been deployed from remote regions of Miran Shah. In addition, armored vehicles and guards should be provided to secure their lives and activities.” According to Nabil, thousands of Madrasas in Pakistan are only involved in brain-washing, terrorism and extremism. (ANI) US CONGRESS CONDEMNS PAK FOR VIOLATING HUMAN RIGHTS TO PURSUE CPEC PROJECT European parliament Vice-President Ryszard Czarnecki has said Pakistan is violently crushing dissent and indulging in human rights violations of the Balochistan people as the ‘China-Pakistan Economic and Defence Cooperation (CPEC)’ project is being constructed against their will. “The grievances of the local Baloch community were being completely ignored, and anything interpreted as dissent, was being violently crushed,” said Czarnecki at an event on the ‘China-Pakistan Economic and Defence Cooperation, Global and Regional Impact’, in the US Congress on Thursday, source said. Along with Czarnecki, other speakers at the event included Dr. Walid Phares, Co-Secretary General of the Transatlantic Parliamentary Group on Counter Terrorism and Paulo Casaca, Executive Director of Arc humankind. In his remarks about the CPEC, Czarnecki highlighted the manner in which this project was being constructed against the will of the local population in Balochistan, leading to the heavy presence of Pakistani military and police apparatus in the area. He said while the security deployment was apparently for the safety of the Chinese personnel and infrastructure, it had resulting in a situation where the human rights of the local population were being frequently violated. Moreover, the Pakistani Army was engaged in forceful evacuation of people from their traditional homesteads and farmlands in several areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan, so as to make land available for the CPEC, he added. He also highlighted that the failure of the international community to intervene and check atrocities by the Pakistan army in the areas proposed for the CPEC, would result in the escalation of human rights violations of innocent civilians in Pakistan. Echoing similar sentiments, Casaca mentioned that while the CPEC was a good initiative, it was going through disputed territory and was being completely controlled by the Pakistan army with no local governance participation being allowed. Local inhabitants in the areas of Gilgit Baltistan and Baluchistan were being forcefully cleared for the project, rendering people homeless and depriving them of their sources of livelihood. He also referred to the aggressive Chinese actions in the South China Sea, and lamented that while the US, along with its allies, was trying to maintain freedom of navigation in the area, Pakistan, the foremost beneficiary of US largesse over the years, was now supporting the Chinese regime. The CPEC project comprises a network of railways, roads and pipelines that would connect Pakistan’s port city of Gwadar in the province of Balochistan, with the Chinese city of Kashgar in landlocked Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR).(ANI) MAOIST CENTRE TO BLOCK BUDGET BILLS UNTIL VOTE ON ‘NO-CONFIDENCE MOTION’ AGAINST PM OLI The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) on Friday decided to block three major bills related to the annual budget announcement at the Parliament until the House voted on a ‘no-confidence motion’ filed against present Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oliled government. The Maoist Centre had earlier filed a ‘no-confidence motion’ against Prime Minister Oli after withdrawing its support from the Union Government post which the ruling party is now a minority in the Parliament. Meanwhile, the CPN Maoist Centre is also holding its Central Office meeting to discuss contemporary political issues including formation of a new government under its leadership, source said. According to the party sources, the meeting would discuss taking other fringe parties into confidence to endorse its ‘no-confidence motion’ against Prime Minister Oli and government formation in alliance with the Nepali Congress, among other issues. The meeting is taking place at the party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s residence in Lazimpat. (ANI)
