Dear Reader
Completing the final edition of R&R for 2015 has inevitably caused
me to reflect on some of the stories which have passed across my
desk in the past 12 months, as well as what might lay ahead for the
industry during the coming year.
Certainly construction and those responsible for regeneration
across our urban landscapes can take pride in the projects which
have been delivered: improving our built environment, providing
jobs and contributing hugely to the UK economy.
Against this overall positive picture it is still saddening to witness
often quite sizeable companies struggling financially: though this
often reflects poor deals struck when work was short, or the
premium prices now having to be paid for skilled labour or certain
raw materials. And another anomaly has been the fluctuating
success of trade shows – such as UK Construction Week – where
excellent content does not always attract the crowds they deserve.
Looking ahead it seems certain that the pressures on housing and
demand for business premises, leisure destinations and
infrastructure such as roads or railways will keep the country’s
building product manufacturers, contractors and consultants busy
for the foreseeable future.
Here at Waverley Publications, meanwhile, we will continue to try
and provide you with up to date news and insights into the new
technologies, techniques cutting edge contracts which make
construction one of the most interesting businesses to be
associated with.
Yours sincerely
JCC’s new
industrial lighting
For employees to perform
well at their work, good
lighting is essential as it has a
positive effect on both
employee mood and
productivity. Conversely,
poor lighting degrades
employee performance and
also has a negative impact on
health and safety in the work
place.
