PATRICK
PIEPKORN ’12
MAJOR: ECONOMICS
NOW: SECURIAN FINANCIAL GROUP,
A FINANCIAL SERVICES CORPORATION
QUOTE: “YOU WILL EMERGE FROM
MACALESTER AS A BETTER VERSION OF
YOURSELF.”
“Being a part of competitive team sports
taught me the value in working hard,
being a team player, giving it your best,
communication, problem solving, and
many more skills I use in working with
others in my personal and professional life
today,” says former basketball forward
Patrick Piepkorn ’12.
Piepkorn remembers his favorite Macalester
basketball game, a road contest at St.
John’s University. Piepkorn grew up in
Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, a small town near
St. John’s. “The Piepkorn family reunion
happened to coincide with the game, so
I had more than 25 family members and
friends in attendance to watch the most
meaningful win of my career.”
With the help of a Macalester economics
professor, Piepkorn secured an internship
with startup Adjuvant near his hometown.
The next year he was accepted to
Securian Financial Group’s Management
Development Program, which led to a
full-time job at Securian. Now a client
relationship advisor, Piepkorn’s builds and
manages relationships with 15 to 25 of
Securian’s Fortune 1,000 clients.
“Being a student athlete at Macalester is a
rewarding experience! Between supportive
teammates, coaches and professors, you
will emerge from Macalester academics and
athletics as a better version of yourself.”
