The underlying thesis of this proposal was the
collaboration between academia and practical
medical application where the co-location of
function is critical. An essential feature of the
masterplan is the opportunity for faculties to be
placed in close physical proximity to each other
and to the new Hospital.
The masterplan concept is that of a ‘Citadel of
Learning’. This concept visualises a highly people –
or citizen – focused environment, rich in a variety
of contemplative and more open public spaces all
framed by ‘fingers’ of Learning.
The International School of Creative Science in
Sharjah, in the United Arab Emirates, provides dual
education founded on both the English and Arab
Curricula, and welcomes students from a range of
diverse nationalities.
Located in an outlying suburb of the city, the
existing facility required essential upgrading and
extension to bring the education provision in line
with current needs, providing a state of the art future
for both pupils and staff. Our proposal developed
new accommodation that extends north of the
existing buildings to provide distinct and separate
teaching spaces that are arranged around shaded
external courtyards, reflecting a modern response to
traditional architecture.
