28TH –29TH SEPTEMBER 2016
Northern Manufacturing & Electronics returns to Manchester
Northern Manufacturing & Electronics, the
North's number one machinery and engineering
technology exhibition, returns to EventCity,
Manchester on September 28th to 29th.
Last year's exhibition attracted nearly 3,000
engineering professionals from across the
region. For over 40% of those visitors, the
show’s impressive line up of machinery
manufacturers provided the main attraction.
Visitors this year can expect to meet a similarly
impressive line-up, with major machinery
vendors such as Amada, Bystronic, Yamazaki
Mazak, HPC Laser, Unison, CMZ, Haas
Automation, XYZ Machine Tools and Trumpf
providing an excellent opportunity to evaluate
the latest machinery side-by-side at a single
event.
Revealed for the first time in the UK, the
new Trumpf TruBend Series 5000 has already
become company's hottest press brake
worldwide, designed for optimal work flow,
from programming and tool set-up right
through to the bending procedure itself. Two
ground breaking angle measurement systems
and a new control design that is claimed to be
revolutionary in its ease of use and efficiency.
Visitors to the Amada stand will find the
multi-award winning Ensis AJ fibre laser cutter.
The fibre laser machine adjusts to a wide range
of thin and thick materials. It has the ability to
process materials commonly associated with a
4kW machine with both the speed and quality
using only a 2kW oscillator, saving energy, time
and costs.
Alongside the big names are a supporting
cast of hundreds, offering a vast selection of
tooling, production aids, components,
consumables and industrial fixtures and
fittings. Quickgrind returns to Northern
Manufacturing with its vast range of solid
carbide cutting tools, together with its
distributor for the North and Scotland, Alliance
Tools. Also joining the stand is sister company
Quickvend. Other notable names for 2016
include Faro and Nikon Metrology, Wilson Tool
International, Schunk, Total Airtool Services
and MecWash Systems. A full searchable list of
exhibitors can be found at:
The variety of subcontract and business
services on show at Northern Manufacturing is
just as comprehensive, making the show a great
place to locate new suppliers and service
providers, including specialist financial services
from Close Brothers and Finance for Industry.
Entry to Northern Manufacturing &
Electronics 2016 is free and Event City offers
3000 free on-site car parking spaces, with easy
access by road, rail or air. To register online for
tickets simply visit www.industrynorth.co.
Visitors can follow all the latest news from the
show at linkedin.industrynorth.co.uk, or on its
Prima Power Laser gives Stead & Wilkins the
‘Cutting’ edge
Schunk to demo new
products
Stead & Wilkins can truly be described as a ‘one
stop shop’ engineering provision. Established in
1973, the company offer a comprehensive range
of design, fabrication and precision engineering
resources, in addition to professional fitting and
installation services, S&W’s precision
engineering capabilities include, 4-axis CNC
milling, CNC turning, conventional turning and
grinding..
Prompted by customer demand, over the past
four decades S&W has extended its now allembracing
range of services. Regular purchases
of the best available production aids have been
made to help extend the company’s competencies
and to ensure the prompt delivery of high quality
products and components. To help satisfy
growing demand and to enable a further
expansion of S&W’s fabrication capabilities, the
company recently purchased a 2D laser cutting
machine from Prima Power.
Eliott Stead, Operations Manager at Stead &
Wilkins Ltd. explained. “Our production
equipment procurement program is largely
driven by the demands we experience from our
customers. When the volume of work we
subcontract for a specific process reaches a critical
mass, we explore the economic viability of
buying the necessary equipment, bringing the
process in-house and further extending our
capabilities and control over quality. An example
of this is our recent purchase of a Prima Power
PLATINO Fiber 2D laser cutting machine.
“Having compiled a wish list of required
features and reflected on the available machines
from several leading manufacturers, we came to
the conclusion that the PLATINO Fiber general
purpose 2D laser cutting machine from Prima
Power best matched our needs. In addition to
providing the versatility that would
accommodate our diverse requirements, the
Prima Power machine delivered high-quality
results, and thanks to features such as its quick
set-up times, was extremely productive. It also
helped our decision that Prima Power enjoy an
excellent reputation in the market place and that
the machine was also very cost effective.
“Following a trouble free installation and after
our operator training sessions, our new laser
cutting machine is now fully operational. In
addition to appreciating the machine’s hardware,
our staff have found the Prima Power software
very intuitive and easy to use. Also, the Prima
Power software is able to communicate with our
existing Solid Works software without a problem.
“The use of our new Prima Power PLATINO
Fiber laser cutting machine has speeded-up many
of our processes and the rapid availability of cut
material has helped to remove the potential for
production bottle-necks and increased our
overall operational efficiency.”
The Prima Power PLATINO Fiber, as
purchased by Stead and Wilkins, is a high
quality, general purpose 2D laser cutting machine
that is by employed around the world for a
multitude of applications
Prima Power offers a comprehensive range of
modular automation solutions enabling
customers to specify a Platino 2.0 Fiber to exactly
match their specific needs. This wide range of
add-ons also enables users’ Platino Fiber
machines to evolve with their growing
requirements and to develop from, for instance a
stand-alone machine, to a 24/7 operating FMS
system.
At the Northern Manufacturing exhibition on
Stand F2, Schunk will be showing a multitude
of new products alongside some of its
established market favourites. At the
Manchester show, the innovator in
workholding, toolholding and automation will
be unveiling a host of new technology for
customers that didn't get to MACH 2016.
Schunk will be drawing customer's
attention to the impressive TENDO E Compact
hydraulic expansion toolholder. Capable of
reducing set-up times by up to 60% whilst
generating 2000Nm of torque, the TENDO E
Compact delivers micron precision for a host of
machining applications. With this precision
toolholder, even demanding applications with
tight tolerances on the form, position and
surface finish can be rapidly and reliably
machined.
For workholding applications, SCHUNK
will demonstrate a number of products that will
include the flexible manual ROTA-S chuck with
its optimised wedge bar drive system and
