must have when studying
and why?
One essential I must have
when studying is snacks, because
it takes my mind off
my work.
What do you like to do when
not in school or studying?
When not in school or
studying, I like to spend time
with my big family and my
dog, Collette.
What is your dream job and
why?
My dream job is to open
up a pet shop because I love
animals.
What is one thing people
don’t know about you?
One thing that people
don’t know about me is that
I have 11 sisters, two brothers
and one dog.
Whom do you look up to and
why?
I look up to my family
members because they are
fun and nice.
Who is your favorite teacher
and why?
My favorite teacher is either
Mr. Evers or Mrs. Eminger.

My favorite class is Social
Studies because we act
out scenes in history and it is
very fun and interesting.

out about your school?
One thing that stands out
about my school is that it is a
Catholic School and we have
Mass every Friday.
If you could change one thing
about school, what would
it be?
If I could change one thing
about school, it would be
adding a cafeteria.
What is your favorite thing
to eat if the cafeteria (or
bring for lunch)?
My favorite thing to bring
for lunch is pizza, fruit
snacks, a juice box and Sun
Chips.
What is your best memory
from school?
My best memory from
school is having snow ball
fights in the winter with my
friends.

Noonan families connect at annual Mentor Dinner

Noonan Elementary
Academy, an independent
Catholic school in Mokena,
hosted its annual Mentor
Dinner, Aug. 30, to connect
new families with established
families within their
school. The event, hosted
by the Holy Family Association
(Noonan’s version of a
Parent Teacher Association),
marks the beginning of the
21st year of the Academy.
“We strongly believe in Mrs.
Noonan’s vision to create
a family not just a school,”
said Janet Le Grand Rice,
HFA Vice-President and the
event co-chair.
This sentiment was repeated
over and over again
by not only the new families
attending the event, but also
their mentor families as well.
The sense of community and
togetherness was strong as
new families were paired up
with their mentor families to
sit together, share a meal and
talk about Noonan.
Mokena student attends Honor
Flight welcome home celebration

Alyssa Werner, a Mokena
resident and third grader at
Arbury Hills School, attended
a Welcome Home Celebration
for Honor Flight at Chicago’s
Midway International
Airport. Werner shook hands
with many of the 106 WWII
and Korean War Veterans that
flew to Washington, D.C. in
August for a day of honor.

Intermediate School
The students from Team ISU at
Walker Intermediate School participated
in a Patriot Day activity on Friday,
Sept. 9. The students and teachers
many wonderful memories
of their Honor Flight day.
However, one of their best
highlights was the surprise
Welcome Home Parade at the
end of the day. The veterans
adored the younger generations
and were appreciative of
their patriotic support.
One of the veterans
stopped to shake hands with
Werner and tell her that her
“Thank you for serving our
country!”sign was impressive.
flooded the halls by wearing red, white
and blue in order to show their patriotism
on this special day. The students
also colored patriotic ribbons to hang
above the doors as they enter hallways.
