The Invitational was a nine-hole tournament featuring teams from Lincoln-Way East, Lincoln-Way Central, Lemont High School, Sandburg, Lockport Township and Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School. Schools were allowed to have teams of six competing, and the round was scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and conclude at 7:30 p.m. or before sunset. Knights head coach Brian Shannon said his school hosts the Invitational to simulate the conditions of a larger tournament for the participating schools in order to prepare for the postseason. He brought his six best from his roster of 20 golfers. Central came into the invitational with an unblemished record of 7-0, and Shannon hoped his team would continue to lead the pack at the competition. “We’re looking to keep the mojo working and head strong into the playoffs,” Shannon said. “We’re just trying to get better every day. Just 1 percent better every day.” He noted the Sanctuary course challenges players to keep the ball on the fairway with a focus on strategic shot placement. His goal was for his team to shoot a collective 165-170 on the day. “If the girls play the best they can, play to their capability, we’ll go from there,” Allen said. Allen enjoyed the midweek big tournament format as a change of pace for his team. “It’s a nine-hole tournament but it’s good to be out here with different schools,” Allen said. “All of our big matches Lincoln Way Central High School 18701 S. We’re usually at competitions where you have one or two teams, so it’s nice to have six teams.” A few golfers said they enjoyed the challenges the course provided and played with the anticipation of shooting low scores. Lincoln-Way East junior Hannah Hill said it was fun playing against new competition. She hoped to score under a 45 on the day, after acknowledging she hadn’t played well on her last few holes.
