Council of Legal Education meeting successful

Antigua and Barbuda’s
hosting of the 48 th Meeting
of the Council of Legal
Education, which took place
at the St. James Club has been
hailed a success.
The meeting took place
from August 29 th to September
4 th .
The organizing committee
headed by Attorney General
the Hon. Steadroy “Cutie”
Benjamin held a follow up
meeting on Thursday and
from all reports Antigua received
an A plus for its handling
of the event.
Benjamin said that the
positive feedback from members
of the Council of Legal
Education is overwhelming.
He said that he is pleased with
the work done by the organizing
group, which was able to
work together in achieving
such a daunting task.
The Minister commended
the team on behalf of the
government and further mentioned
“any special activities
that will be planned nationally
of any sort will be handled by
this team right here.”
During the week of activities,
lawyers from around
the region including Antigua
and Barbuda attended a the
11 th annual lecture in the Dr.
The Hon. Lloyd Barnett O.J
Topic Law in Society presented
by President of the
Law Association Trinidad Mr.
Reginald Armor SC.
Minister Benjamin delivered
the welcome remarks,
during the opening ceremony,
where he reiterated his call for
the establishment of a School
of Law in Antigua, a venture
that is still high on the agenda
of the Gaston Browne led administration.
The week packed agenda
climaxed with a cocktail reception.
The Council of Legal Education
is the body responsible
for the administration of legal
education throughout the region.
The organization’s vision
is to be a world leader in higher
education through innovation,
creativity and relevance
in a system of practical legal
education, which is rooted in
history as Caribbean people.
