SUMMARY
In West Africa, 225 women die every day while giving birth, and for every woman who dies, there are approximately 30 others who
suffer infirmity. The Ouagadougou Partnership – a collaboration uniting the nine governments of Francophone West African countries,
international donors, and civil society organizations – was formed to address this problem by increasing availability and use of family
planning services. The partnership specifically targets the 25 percent of married women ages 15-49 in this sub-region who would like
to space or limit births but are not using modern contraceptive methods.
