Highlights of the intervention include:<br />
• 3,000 girls and women trained in safely making, storing, washing, drying,<br />
and disposing of homemade cloth sanitary napkins.<br />
• Over 1,600 girls and women made and wore a 28-bead bracelet depicting the<br />
menstrual cycle and took a pledge to break the silence around menstruation.<br />
• 228 teachers, both male and female, received training in menstrual hygiene<br />
management through awareness-building workshops.<br />
• Focus group discussions (approximately 10 people per group) on menstrual<br />
hygiene were conducted in 28 schools with over 1,000 girls and 100 boys.<br />
• The menstrual hygiene management team met district magistrates,<br />
collectors, and the media at district and state levels to advocate for<br />
menstrual hygiene management.<br />

The WSSCC Program Manager addressed state platforms in India and spoke about<br />
the capacity for change this program brings at the national launch. WSSCC also<br />
brought the issue of menstruation onto the radar of a host of government and<br />
nongovernmental partners, consultants, trainers, and journalists, reaching 230<br />
million people in India via 400 print articles and TV broadcasts.<br />
