ANOTHER DRUG
BUST AT AIRPORT
In just little over two weeks, the
Police Narcotics Department and Customs
have made yet another drug arrest
at the V.C Bird International Airport.
Kevin Troy Wallen, 43 of Jamaica is
currently in police custody assisting
the police in their investigations, after
he was nabbed with 47 ½Lbs of Cannabis
in his possession.
The St. Ann’s resident arrived in
Antigua on Thursday, aboard Caribbean
Airline Flight #459 from Kingston
Jamaica. Custom Officers on duty at
the airport carried out a search on his
suitcase, and found 12 wrapped packages
of compressed Cannabis hidden
inside.
The matter was handed over to the
police and Wallen was arrested and taken
into custody. The suitcase with the
drugs was seized and taken to the police
station.
He is likely to make his first court
Government to toughen stance vs US
By Everton Barnes
Antigua and Barbuda is
to adopt a tougher stance
against the United States in
the ongoing dispute over the
gaming issue.
Antigua and Barbuda
won a judgment against the
US at the World Trade Organisation
over its right to
offer online gaming services
to Americans, but more than
a decade later, the US has
Editor’s Note
failed to abide by that ruling.
Now Ambassador Colin
Murdoch said the government
is eyeing the success of
two South American countries
and how they were able
to have court rulings implemented
against the European
Union in one case and the
United States in the other.
He noted that Ecuador
was able to leverage suspension
of intellectual property
rights which brought negotiators
for the European
Union to the bargaining table
to settle the case. In the
other matter, Brazil used the
same tactic to get the US to
settle.
Murdoch said the government
will likely threaten
to suspend the IP rights
in negotiations with the US
government and that the issue
was raised at the latest
round of discussion held just
two weeks ago.
According to the ambassador
the US action in the
gaming issue was illegal;
as it destroyed the second
most important industry in
the country when it made
it unlawful for US citizens
to engage in cross border
gaming. “This industry was
rising and becoming a major
player in the economy. The
US destroyed it. Thousands
of jobs were lost. We are not
going to let that go. We are
going to pursue this matter
until we get a satisfactory
resolution!” he declared.
Murdoch was speaking
on the Big Issues program
on Observer Radio. Also appearing
on the program was
third year student in International
and European law,
Jamal Francis, who called
for an end to negotiations on
the gaming issue which according
to him was getting
Antigua and Barbuda, ‘nowhere’.
He was highly critical
of the ‘diplomacy route’ as
this was leading the country
down a path with no end in
sight, and he urged the country
to adopt the strategy employed
by both Ecuador and
Brazil to have their matters
settled.
are investigating the circumstances
surrounding a
shooting incident in Grays
left a 25yrs-old man nursing
a gunshot wound.
The allegations are that
the Grays Farm resident was
hanging out at a shop on
Bridge Road, when a man
dressed in dark clothing,
wearing a mask, approached
him and opened fire. He
was injured in the process
with a gunshot wound
to his left leg. According to
doctors at Mount St. Johns
is not life threatening, and
his condition was reported
as stable. Further investigations
are currently ongoing
into the matter. The police
In the past, we have
our own conference as
we seek to woo more investors
who we are and why they
should invest in the country.
“We are particularly
tourism, but we will be also
seeking to diversify the investments,
so we are also
looking at agriculture and
PM Browne will also
last Friday.
Minister of Legal Affairs,
Public Safety and
“Cutie” Benjamin declared
the week of activities open
and described the programme
as very timely.
He stated that the government
is very serious
about tackling the issue and
also that of migrant smuggling.
Minister Benjamin noted
that “it was this government
soon after it came into office
that put the proper legal
framework together, so that
persons when charged can
be prosecuted”.
“This government made
sure that one of the first
things that it did was to
demonstrate to the community
that it is serious about
human trafficking; especially
when it passed the law to
make it possible for prosecution
to take place” Benjamin
added.
The Public Safety Minister
added that the government
intends to make certain
that there is a greater
collaboration among relevant
authorities, institutions
and government organizations.
“We’re going to work
Minister Benjamin added
that the aim is to ensure
that Antigua and Barbuda is
not only the safest country
in the Caribbean, but is also
Wendell Robinson, said that
education and awareness
where human trafficking is
concerned, is very critical.
the problem.
“As the Attorney Gen-
Minister of Legal Affairs, Public
Safety and Labour, the Hon.
Steadroy “Cutie” Benjamin
eral had eluded to, there
were difficulties with the
legislation that were passed
to combat these two types
of offences, and there were
constitutional difficulties
which resulted in one of our
famous cases going through
the window, however we do
have another case before
the court where two persons
have been charged under
the new Human Trafficking
Government becomes CUB’s major stakeholder
By Joanna Paris
Last Friday saw a symbolic
turn of events in the
history of the country’s
banking sector.
The government of Antigua
and Barbuda and the Caribbean
Union Bank (CUB)
officially inked documents
to establish a shareholding
arrangement, a step closer to
entrepreneurial socialism.
The agreement makes
provisions for the government
and CUB to gorge a
synergy to advance the development
of the bank and
by enlarge the economy of
Antigua and Barbuda.
Chairman of the CUB,
Ambassador Brian Stuart-
Young described the move
as “historic”. He said that
the bank is now in a better
position to truly enhance its
services to the public. The
financial institution recently
commemorated its 10 anniversary.
He also noted that most
of the major banks in the
OECS have the government
as a majority shareholder.
“There is every good
reason I think for the government
of Antigua and Barbuda
in its goal to focus on
building the nation into am
economic powerhouse, to
also harness the ability of a
financial institution to collaborate
and work on their
goals.
“I know that our shareholders
are very excited
about this entry, because
certainly the bank’s capital
base and value will immediately
place is in a more
effective position. This will
extend our ability to enable
the chance to win a barbeque
The winners are frequent
shoppers at the store
and walked away with the
top prize of a brand new
governments’ departments
in becoming more efficient”,
Ambassador Stuart Young
endorsed. He also emphasized
that the bank’s asset
value will also be increased
and improved.
An elated Prime Minister,
the Hon. Gaston Browne
wasted no time in mentioning
that small banks in “today’s
dispensation” can be
easily affected by various
challenges. He added that the
new arrangement with CUB
has a lot of advantages.
“If anything, one should
see this acquisition as a
pre-emptive strike to ensure
that the bank does not end
up in any difficulties. The
$30 million dollars that the
government is investing in
the capital of CUB means
that CUB is today one of the
best capitalized banks in the
OECS. We are also having
discussions with potential
stakeholders which would
see perhaps a further $50
million dollars invested in
share capital”, the nation’s
leader indicated.
Prime Minister Browne
is confident that the bank
is now one of the strongest
commercial institutions in
the region.
Walk for the Cure a resounding success
This Ken Isaac photo shows the participants, grouped in front of CIBC FirstCaribbean on High Street
just prior to the start of the 2016 Walk for the Cure last Saturday.
With record breaking
participation this year, CIBC
FirstCaribbean Bank’s 5 th
Annual Walk for the Cure
has been assessed as a resounding
success.
Led by the Police Band,
the participants moved off
from the bank on High street
at about 5.30 pm last Saturday,
1 st October, and wended
it way around the streets of
St. John’s.
Prior to the start, the
walkers were addressed
by Country Manager Glen
Smith who thanked the participants
for supporting this
great initiative by CIBC
FirstCaribbean to raise the
awareness of cancer and to
support and celebrate our
many survivors.
He noted that finding a
cure for cancer should be a
very personal cause for all
because everyone knows at
least one person who has
died from cancer or is a survivor.
In fact, CIBC FirstCaribbean
itself has staff members
who are either battling
cancer or are survivors.
Mr. Smith said that participation
in this 5 th Annual
CIBC FirstCaribbean Walk
for a Cure is important in
terms of increasing awareness
of the disease; raising
funds for cancer care,
showing support for cancer
survivors; and remembering
those who have passed.
This year, all the funds
raised will be donated to
the Oncology Department
at Mount St. John Medical
Centre and the Breast
Friends Organisation.
The bank manager noted
that this as an integral part of
CIBC First Caribbean’s continuing
commitment to be
engaged with the real issues
facing our clients and their
communities. “By becoming
personally involved in the
event we are each demonstrating
that CIBC First-
Caribbean’s commitment
to Antigua and Barbuda is
about more than handing
over a donation.”
The generous support
of a number of regional
and local sponsors coupled
with the myriad fundraising
events and activities organized
by the bank’s staff
across the region, has so far
raised USD$402,715 of the
USD$500, 000 target set for
this year.
Last year’s efforts raised
USD$400, 000 which went
directly towards early detection,
care, support and
raising awareness of cancer
across the region.
The bank will continue to
accept donations towards the
Walk for the Cure Fund until
month end.

Mandatory IT training for senior managers
in government - to be or not to be?
By ABNAB
Do you know this email
address? abnab@ab.gov.ag -
probably not.
Well, let me tell you. It is
the email address of the Antigua
and Barbuda National
Accreditation Board. In stark
contrast, if you checked the
email addresses of the permanent
secretaries in Antigua
and Barbuda, you would
discover that only about 35%
use the designated “name of
p.s. @ab.gov.ag’. Yes, only
35%, after so many years.
Why is the uptake so
small after so much hype,
after so much cost, after so
much work to develop the
addresses? The answer is
simple. There is no policy
to discourage the use of
personal email addresses for
government business until
recently.
But if you thought that
observation was interesting,
you should discover the
number of ministries who do
not utilize the modern technologies
of websites and
electronic newsletters for
increased productivity and
information sharing. Our
survey showed that of 17
departments of government,
only 9 or 53% have functional
websites and only 1 or
6% have a newsletter. How
much information could be
shared with the general public
through these media? Tell
me.
Be kind to the permanent
secretaries as you contrast
the IT optimization among
school teachers. Consider
for example, the number of
teachers in both the primary
and secondary schools who
still use calculators instead
of Microsoft Excel to add
up midterm and end of year
grades. Consequently, they
are unable to quickly provide
simple statistics like range,
mean, median and mode, and
so provide a more holistic
analysis of the grades. Consider
the number of schools’
website, no electronic newsletter,
and no electronic directory.
Imagine teaching
without optimal integration
of the awesome power of the
Internet.
Yes, these deficiencies
persist, in spite of the investment
by the government to
provide teachers with laptops,
and training, and the
like. Regrettably, there is No
IT Culture; no clearly articulated
and publicized policy
to ensure IT optimization, no
monitoring of the policy, no
accountability, no…
If you consider the money
spent on meetings overseas
which could be done
through the IT tools such as
“Go to Meetings”. In fact,
on average, airfare, accommodation
and per diem represent
on average 90% cost
of meetings. Consider the
savings, especially in these
hard times.
But, let us continue the
debate. How many government
offices allow their managers
to use smart phones to
improve efficiency, and also
save on overseas calls by
using tools like WhatsApp?
How many offices reconstruct
the same information
over and over, when that
information could be in a
template, reproduced expeditiously
and so save time,
money and expertise? The
list goes on and on.
Don’t even begin to think
of the frustration of the IT
savvy graduate from the
Antigua and Barbuda International
Institute of Technology
or the Antigua State
College who enters a government
employ and is faced
with dated technology. The
point is clear.
Quality education, quality
government and quality
business are impossible in
this IT Centric age without
the gatekeepers (managers)
being adequately IT trained.
The gatekeepers- the managers
are the crafters, implementers,
evaluators and
catalysts for the policies. So
where there is no “vision”,
the people perish.
I am confident that the
point has been made, but for
the benefit of the 2% who
are still on the fence-unconvinced,
let me share seven
(7) specific reasons why
“Special IT Training for senior
managers (especially in
Government) should be mandatory”.
Most senior managers
are between the ages 45 to
59 years old. Senior managers
belong to a group which
many like to call techno-immigrants.
Regrettably, IT
does not come naturally; it is
neither part of their DNA or
their culture.
Left on their own, the
present pattern in government
will be repeated, and
only 35% or less will comply
with a strategic plan for IT
optimization.
Senior managers are part
of the leadership team, and
it is impossible to lead what
you do not understand or feel
passionate about.
Human beings gravitate
to what is comfortable and
easy, senior managers are no
different.
Even if senior managers
had formal IT Training previously,
the IT technology is
so expansive and is expanding
that updates and customized
training are imperative.
Too much is at stake
for one strategically placed
group to impede the progress
of “the most”- the nation.
Consider the facts and
make your decision.
Should IT Training for
Senior Managers in Government
be mandatory? If
quality is our mandate, and
becoming the economic
powerhouse of the region is
our goal, then the answer is
obvious.

Address by the Hon., Eustace Lake, Minister of
Works and Housing at The 5 th China-Eurasia Expo
The Ministry of Works and Housing
wishes to express its sincere apology
for the incorrect reference to the
“Republic of China” instead of the
‘People’s Republic of China’ made in
a press release published in this paper
on September 28th, 2016 titled “Remarks
by the Minister of Works and
Housing, the Honourable Eustace
“Teco” Lake, at the at the 5th China-Eurasia
Expo”
The Government and people of Antigua
and Barbuda sincerely welcome
the invitation to attend this 5 th China-Eurasia
Expo. A project such as this
is a magnificent opportunity for developing
states like Antigua and Barbuda
and nations of the Caribbean region to
enter into discussions that can only lay
a solid foundation for further growth
and development of the Caribbean
region and the People’s Republic of
China in areas such as scientific Technology
and mounting solutions for the
financing of services.
A platform such as this will create
friendships, establish common
developmental strategies and discuss
cooperation in a sincere, friendly and
practical atmosphere around the established
theme for this year’s forum:
“Mutual discussion, joint development
and sharing Silk Road: Opportunities
and Future”
This forum gives us the opportunity
to examine firsthand the achievements
of China’s new methods of industrialization
and modern industrial systems
while at the same time provide a
platform for cooperation and promote
spirits of the silk road, Deepen the innovation
and cooperation, join hands
to build a bright future to achieve winwin
cooperation between the People’s
Republic of China and Antigua and
Barbuda.
Indeed, this meeting builds on the
platform for cooperation and communication
and develops in abundance,
new prospects for business in both regions
as well as in Asian and European
countries.
This forum in my opinion hinges
largely on building relations, discovering
new and potential trading partners
and promotes Caribbean states like Antigua
and Barbuda as truly a safe place
for viable investment opportunities.
Antigua and Barbuda is perfectly
geographically located in the Caribbean
Sea for the establishment of new
business ventures.
By establishing new businesses in
Antigua and Barbuda, your manufactured
products will have a boost in
reaching states within Latin America,
other Caribbean territories and even
further afield.
The Government and People of Antigua
and Barbuda highly commend
President Xi Jimping for developing
this cooperation and communication
platform five years ago focusing on
mutual discussion, joint development
and sharing of information and ideas
that seeks to deepen and strengthen
bilateral cooperation that will last for
many years to come.
This vision certainly will advance
our growth prospects and give vitality
to the core area of the Silk Road Economic
belt.
This Expo provides trade opportunities
for both regions and gives us the
opportunity to learn from each other
and promote overall cooperation and
bilateral ties to press ahead to develop
new avenues for housing and infrastructure.
Although China is a leader in world
manufacturing, Antigua and Barbuda
faces unique challenges posed by external
shock that have an adverse effect
on housing and economic growth.
I believe that through the discussions
that will occur over the next few
days, together we will advance with
efforts to find solutions to overcome
these challenges.
The People’s Republic of China has
made significant strides with the development
of modern industrial systems
that Antigua and Barbuda can benefit
from.
During the Expo I will be holding
meetings with various business groups
to explore avenues for new housing
projects and infrastructural development
in Antigua and Barbuda.
I believe that meetings such as
these will seek to advance win-win cooperation
between Antigua and Barbuda
and the People’s Republic of China.
My focus during this year’s Expo will
be on advancing efforts to improve the
country’s housing stock.
In closing I must not fail to highly
applaud TBEA CO. LTD which is
a worldwide and key enterprise in
manufacturing power equipment and
one of the most global experienced
international contractors in the power
industry.
The company undertakes China’s
national strategic industries and provides
quality in its services for China
and the world.
As the Minister of Works and Housing
in Antigua and Barbuda I am committed
to doing all in my power to ensure
that opportunities are provided for
an extension of your high value added
products and services from within the
twin island state for export.
Long live the friendship between
Antigua and Barbuda and The People’s
Republic of China.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21).
You know that a team is only
as good as its weakest link, and
you feel compelled to give that
link a yank to test its limits. Do
this, and you just might find
out that the weakest link isn’t
the one you thought it was.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec.
mind open to the ways you
can be kinder, fairer and more
useful, as these are the states
of being that will lead to your
happiness and mental freedom.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan.
19). As methodical as you usually
are, there are times when
your “method” involves a chaotic
attack — a flurry of random,
frustrated action in which
you slam around the obstacles
until something breaks loose.
Most effective!
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb.
18). There are so many reasons
to include more people on
your journey. Choose the right
people and it will be more fun
and, surprisingly, less trouble.
Also, succeeding alone won’t
be nearly as interesting as succeeding
together.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20).
There’s a part of you that cannot
be reached except through
your own creativity. That is
why the habit of doing creative
work will sustain you in a way
that no other habit can.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20).
When you pump another person
up, you pump yourself
up, too. That’s what you’ll
be teaching the others today,
through example, mostly. To
be able to support another
— that, by definition, means
you’re strong.
GEMINI (May 21-June 21).
One theory is “Don’t look
back.” That theory is dependent
on the fact that you’re still
going forward, logically, optimistically,
automatically, perhaps.
That’s OK, too. Onward.
CANCER (June 22-July 22).
You may wonder if the choice
you made was the best of all.
It certainly was the best of the
options presented or understood
by you at the time. Best
of all, though? Perhaps more
research on the scope of “all”
is necessary.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). The
one who criticizes you about
one little thing is probably
striking out at something deeper.
This is annoying if it rings
true. Maybe it’s just annoying
enough to be transformative.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). A
few hours to yourself is a curse
to some, a luxury to others, and
to many a daily occurrence.
What will you do with your
solitary hours? In a sense, that
will define what you’re about
lately.

Sprinter Miguel Francis bent on switching allegiance
By Vanroy Burnes
Sprinter Miguel Francis seems bent
on switching his allegiance to the United
Kingdom. The Montserrat-born athlete
was speaking on the Jamaican Sports-
Max program last week and from where
he is based.
According to the 200-meter specialist,
his decision was based on a number
of factors to include personal matters.
He noted that the uncertified yasco track
which the consultant said was hard like
the pitch road combined with the harsh
and irresponsible criticism by the Antiguan
public since the news broke, making
it impossible for him to represent this
country again.
Francis also indicated that after seeing
how the British athletics federation
treats their athletes with preparation aspects
and the facilities were all part of the
process why he intended to switch. He
noted also that all of families are in the
United Kingdom and that will be easier
for him.
The athlete said he was never pressured
by the British, but was told by
them he should have moved earlier, he
also noted that it was he who approached
them and not them approaching him.
The sprinter said he is willing to meet
with the Minister to sit and talk even to
hear him out contrary to reports by his
camp, he was not aware of a meeting was
set up and camp denied.
On the question of the Yasco track,
Francis said after running 19.68 seconds
on the track and find out later that the
track was not certified did not go down
well with him since this was a world
leading time and at this time the results
cannot be ratified. The 200 meters sprinter
is appealing to Government to follow
through with their plans to upgrade the
track not only for him but for future athletes.
He also noted that the upgrade will
allow for us to host major event like
CARIFTA; he said the track upgrade
was in the making for a long time, but he
is not sure why it took so long. On the
question of Usain Bolt, Francis said he
would like Bolt to stay on a little longer
because he would like to run with him in
an Olympic final before he retires.
In conclusion Francis said he is confident
the British federation will embraced
him. The Antigua & Barbuda Athletics
Association will have to clear Francis for
his transfer.

Sandals upsets Kennedy’s in Business League
By Carlena Knight
Sandals pulled off an upset on Saturday
night at JSC in the Cool & Smooth Digicel
Business basketball league defeating the defending
champions, Kennedy’s, 75-65 in the
feature match.
Kennedy’s looked to be unstoppable in the
first half but could not maintain their momentum
versus the young and vibrant Sandals team
who came back swinging in the second.
The guys in black pushed the game to overtime
but could not secure the win thus resulting
in Sandals rising to the occasion and giving
Kennedy’s their first loss for the season.
Led by Kenya Achom with 18 points and
assisted by Devon Benjamin and Selassie
Brathwaite with 16 and 13 points respectively,
Sandals supported by their fans and other basketball
lovers celebrated after the final whistle,
still undefeated.
Antigua Barbuda Transport Board picked
up another victory, edging out APUA Head Office,
51-49.
Transport Board trailed throughout the entire
game until the final minute of play where
Marlon ‘Buju’ Charles made the game winning
basket.
Charles ended the match with 16 points
with Kareem ‘Macky’ Edwards contributing
15. Head Office’s Kwame Brathwaite scored 18
points in a losing effort.
L & S Superette remain winless in the 2016
overs and West Indies needing
someone to kick-start the innings,
Samuels took command,
posting an invaluable 67 for the
fourth wicket with Ramdin.
The right-hander, dropped
on 16, 38 and 57, slammed four
fours and two sixes – both coming
off left-arm spinner Imad
Wasim in the 33rd over of the
innings which leaked 16 runs.
He reached his 28th ODI
half-century off 45 balls three
overs later but then lasted just
five more deliveries before
playing on to left-arm seamer
Wahab Riaz who finished with
two for 48.
On 194 for four in the 38th
over, West Indies suffered a
mini slide.
Ramdin also played on to
Wahab in the 40th over after
lashing a four and a six off 50
balls and Carlos Brathwaite
was run out for 14 in the 43rd,
courtesy of a direct hit from
bowler Wahab.
With the Windies needing
a miracle, Kieron Pollard
showed little intent, gathering
a lacklustre 22 from 29 balls in
a 42-run seventh wicket stand
with Holder.
By the time he holed out in
the deep in the penultimate over
off Imad, the game had long escaped
West Indies. (CMC)

Team Antigua returns from CAC triumphant
By Renio Abbott
Members of the Antigua & Barbuda
Armature Body Building and Weight Lifting
Federation returned from the 44th CAC
National Bodybuilding Championships
which took place from September 29th,
2016 to October 2nd, 2016 in the Dominican
Republic last evening at the V.C. Bird
International Airport. Senator Collin James
was present at for the arrival of the athletes
and stated that he is extremely pleased with
the performance of the athletes and will be
looking forward to give his support to the
association.
President of the federation Jamila Jonas
stated that the squad had a total of 360 participants,
which was record breaking considering
that it was a significant increase
over the 200+ that normally compete.
Antigua and Barbuda was represented
by a total of 10 athletes. Their performance
was unbelievable performance and because
of the strong athletes base we did extremely
well she is proud of her team.
Coach Joseph Meade stated that the experience
was great. “I must commend them
for their performance and efforts. It was a
new experience for three of the athletes and
we came home with a few medals and trophies.
For me it was a pleasure representing
my country and next year we will be
more prepared from the experience we had
we had a few challenges despite we over
powered them through discipline and dedication”
he stated.
He also extended thanks to the government
of Antigua and Barbuda and the
other People that assisted the athletes with
other sponsorship for their kind and hearty
support. He congratulated the following
athletes for their medal-winning performance:
Master Alfred Jarvis for placing
SHARJAH, United Arab
Emirates – Darren Bravo
and Marlon Samuels stroked
half-centuries in an improved
West Indies performance but
the Caribbean side were still
distinctly second best, slumping
to a 59-run loss to Pakistan
in the second One-Day International
to concede the threematch
series here Sunday.
After a woeful performance
in last Friday’s first ODI, West
Indies displayed more fight this
time around but their target of
338 were well always beyond
their reach, and they buckled
under the burden of a rising required
run rate and declined to
278 for seven, to lose their fifth
straight game on tour.
Left-hander Bravo topscored
with an attractive 61
off 74 deliveries while veteran
right-hander Marlon Samuels
struck 57 off 52 balls. Opener
Kraigg Brathwaite chipped in
with a dogged 39 and wicketkeeper
Denesh Ramdin, 34.
At 194 for three in the 38th
over, West Indies retained some
hope – albeit faint – of overhauling
their target, especially
with Samuels and Ramdin at
the crease and the likes of Carlos
Brathwaite and Kieron Pollard
still to come
But three wickets tumbled
for 37 runs in the space of 29
balls to leave the Windies on
231 for six in the 43rd over and
Holder’s unbeaten 31 off 26
balls, was only of academic importance
at the end.
Seamer Holder finished
with two for 51 while debutant
fast bowler Alzarri Joseph
picked up two for 62.
West Indies suffered an
early setback in their run chase
when Johnson Charles picked
out cover with seamer Mohammad
Amir in the second over of
the innings, to depart for two
with three runs on the board.
A series of partnerships
then ensured there was no top
order collapse. Firstly, Bravo
and Brathwaite cautiously set
about repairing the innings in
a stand of 89 for the second
wicket, which put West Indies
in sight of the 100-run mark.
Bravo, dropped on 43 by
captain Azhar Ali at cover off
left-arm spinner Mohammad
4th in Classic body building, Master Frankie
Browne placing 6th in Heavy weight,
Rodney George 2nd place in Junior category,
Elvis Bailey 4th place Light Weight,
Master Kenny Jacobs 1st in Light weight,
Kimberly Ephraim 1st place in bikini (172
cm) Tallest.
Both Kimberly and Kenny were only
a few points away from the pro-card. It is
anticipated that they will be successful in
achieving their pro cards in Mexico next
year.
Caribbean Times wishes to congratulate
Team Antigua and wish them the best
as they prepare for the next competition.
Bravo, Samuels star but West Indies lose
Nawaz, struck five fours and
three sixes – the latter all clean,
powerful strikes down the
ground.
Brathwaite, meanwhile,
counted three fours in a laborious
66-ball knock before he
was run out at 92 for two in
the 22nd over after advancing
down the pitch for a non-existent
single and then failing
to beat Mohammad Nawaz’s
throw to the striker’s end.
Bravo had added a further
35 for the third wicket
with Samuels when he too
perished via the run out route,
found short of his ground at the
