Cadbury World
THE WEST MIDLANDS AND WEST COUNTRY
Covering the story of chocolate from bean to bar and the history of Cadbury from tiny
shop to international brand, Cadbury World has enough facts and nostalgia to entertain
the adults and enough fun and free chocolate for kids to love it even more.
This engaging, interactive attraction tells the story of chocolate from its discovery
by the ancient Mayans and Aztecs through its journey to the bars and brand that we
know today. This is a multi-sensory experience where visitors progress on a fun journey
through fourteen zones of the Cadbury story, with actors, rides, history, interactive
cinema and tasting experiences all cleverly linked. The tour shows visitors around the
working factory, with machines packaging bars to send out to the shops, alongside the
tastings and other experiences – and the sweet smell of chocolate is never far away
at any time. The advertising avenue introduces a spot of nostalgia, too, bringing back
memories of Cadbury advert campaigns from the past.
The flat car park has plenty of disabled parking spaces, less than a hundred yards
away from the main entrance along a slight slope. Double automatic doors open onto
the good-sized reception area, with low-level payment desks and priority queues for
those with disabilities. The two accessible toilets here are excellent – very modern,
bright, clean and well-kept, with great accessible features – and there are other disabled
toilets around the site.
Overall, Cadbury World is very well thought-out, and those with different needs can
access and interact with most parts of the attraction. The staff are very helpful and used
to disabled visitors and their needs. One area of the upper floor of the packaging factory
is not accessible to those who cannot manage steps, though there is a video to show
what is there. Some parts of the building are dark, with little contrast between walls and
floor or have brick-effect flooring, which may be tricky for those with impaired sight
or mobility. A manual wheelchair-accessible car is available on request on the Cadabra
ride, and there are two wheelchair spaces on the 4D Chocolate Adventure. However,
wheelchair-users who can transfer into one of the cinema seats will have a much more
interactive experience, as the seats shake and move as part of the experience.
