some areas such as the master’s saloon have steep steps but virtual tours are available.<br />

Only three wheelchair users at a time can enter (so pre-booking is recommended) and,<br />

due to the size of the lifts, mobility scooters are not allowed. Facilities for visitors with<br />

sensory impairment include guides and signage in Braille, plus tactile models, and audio<br />

presentations (though there is no loop inside the ship). There’s free Blue Badge<br />

parking at the Cutty Sark Gardens car park.<br />

FOOD & DRINK aa The Even Keel Café beneath the stern provides a spacious and impressive<br />

setting to enjoy homemade cakes, teas and light snacks including children’s lunchboxes.<br />

Dramatically sited on the bank of the Thames, the Old Royal Naval College is Greenwich’s<br />

architectural centrepiece, described by UNESCO as “the most outstanding group of Baroque<br />

buildings in <strong>Britain</strong>”. The grounds and some buildings are open to visitors, including the<br />

stunning Painted Hall, with its sumptuously decorated ceiling, and the Neoclassical chapel.<br />

Call in at the on-site Discover Greenwich Visitor Centre, where hands-on exhibits explore<br />

the history of this evocative complex.<br />

The entrance on King William Walk offers level access to the visitor centre (which<br />

has an adapted toilet), while a lift on College Way allows wheelchair users to enter the<br />

Painted Hall. For the chapel, go through the East Gate then walk around to the chapel<br />

entrance – once inside, wheelchair users can access the nave with a Stairmate machine<br />

(arrange in advance; 020 82694799). Braille and large-print guides are available for both
