MONTH KICKS OFF WITH MELBOURNE CUP CELEBRATIONS 

As you probably already know, 

Melbourne Cup is being held on 

Tuesday November 1. 

We’ve been getting ready for this special 

day for a long time now, because this year we 

have several special events going on at the 

club. 

Our main event is our Dolphins Diamond 

Melbourne Cup Garden Party being held in our 

brand new Dolphin Stadium.

Christmas gift 

As Christmas approaches, you arrange to have a 

Christmas catchup with family and friends at your 

local watering hole. 

As you press send on your email, you begin to wonder how the 

day might unfold… 

You enter the club with a few presents under your arms, 

excitedly waiting for the moment you can pass them over to your 

loved ones and watch their faces brighten with joy as they unwrap 

the gift inside. 

The traditional bear hugs and air kisses are exchanged between 

all attendees and a blur of colour moves across the table as brightly 

wrapped gifts and curly ribbons find their way to new owners. 

Everyone finds their seats as they clutch their gifts and try and 

guess what’s inside. But their gaze starts to drift to the stage, 

where 100 Christmas gifts are on display, eagerly awaiting one 

lucky person to win the opportunity to win what’s inside one of 

them. Everyone is here for the UNWRAP $100K promotion at the 

Dolphins. 

You glance over at your mum who was one of the lucky weekly 

winners earlier that month. She received her entry on the second 

Saturday the draw was held. Clearly she is nervous but you know 

that her odds at winning are pretty good, as there are only 34 other 

finalists who could possibly win. She holds her breath as the draw 

takes place and the number drawn is announced. Her face contorts 

to one of shock then excitement and a scream escapes her mouth. 

She has won. Regardless of what unfolds, she is guaranteed to 

walk away with $10,000 cash in tonight’s draw. This spells a very 

merry Christmas for your family. 

But your Mum isn’t thinking of that right now. That’s not her 

goal. She’s going for something much bigger. In one of those 100

has to do is pick the present on the stage that holds the big money. 

Your table erupts in support, but their calls are drowned out by

to the draw so as not to miss any opportunity for one of those 

lucky finalist entries.

to the peninsula, it will be 

interesting to see what impact 

it has on our club with regard 

to visitations and also game

Meninga has turned out to 

be for Rugby League. A 

terrific player who would 

make my best ever team. A 

great captain, his coaching 

of the Qld team to nine out 

of ten titles is incomparable. 

What I really applaud from 

him is his tough stance on

field for the Australian 

team. Good on you Mal, 

keep up the great work.

Each year the Dolphins Board of Directors 

like to give something special back to locals. 

Mark your calendars on Sunday 18th 

December for a night to remember. For the 

first time ever, this year’s Dolphins Christmas 

Carols will be hosted in our very own Dolphin 

Stadium. 

A night full of live Christmas performances 

and a field full of kids wearing glow-in-thedark 

merchandise brings the spirit of Christmas 

to life in our own backyard. 

Whilst we still encourage you to bring the 

traditional blanket and camping chairs to make 

yourself comfortable on the field, this year we 

will be performing in front of the newly 

constructed Dolphin Stadium. This means that 

you have the choice to see the carols from the 

best seats in the house – the Des Web Stand. 

Gates will be opening from 5pm to allow 

you to get settled in early. On your way to 

finding your seats be sure to pick up some 

goody bags for the kids and some snacks 

before the show begins. All proceeds from 

merchandise sales will be donated back to 

local community group PENDER. 

Once again, volunteers will be located at the 

gates to receive gold coin donations, all of 

which go to Redcliffe Crimestoppers and the 

Children’s Ward at the Redcliffe Hospital. 

Performances commence at 7pm and 

include regular MC Deana Peher, the club’s 

Christmas Voice Your Talent winner, the 

Queensland Choir and so much more. 

Then cap the night off with some spectacular 

fireworks at 9pm. 

The 12.6km dual-track line is now 

running between Kippa-Ring and Petrie,

So far we have been focusing on our kitchen 

staff for our chef specials every month, 

however this month we have another member 

of our team who has a spectacular meal to 

offer us for November. 

Kelvin Ralph is our functions coordinator here at the 

club. He goes above and beyond to give our customers 

the best experience possible whenever they visit our 

club. This month he’s put up his hand to deliver a dish 

that represents who he is as a person, but also is the 

kind of meal that he knows everyone will love. 

Kelvin’s dish is a Mediterranean Mixed Grill. This 

tasty meal combines a marinated lamb cutlet, a lamb 

shish, a chicken shish and an adana shish, plus a splash 

of salad and rice. Altogether, the dish is designed to 

provide a taste-test of the flavours of the Mediterranean, 

served in different ways to provide something for everybody. 

To complement the flavours, add your favourites 

from the salad and vegetable buffet as well as this 

is included in the price. This is an idea close to Kelvin’s 

heart, as it symbolises the ideals that he successfully 

incorporates into his everyday life. Kelvin, being the 

wonderfully social person that he is, loves to mix with 

people of all backgrounds and experiences, and especially 

loves to make them happy. 

This is something that he aims to do with this dish. It 

is designed to have a variety of options available to suit 

all tastes, while still encouraging you to be adventurous 

and try something new. Even for the non-adventurous 

at heart, you can feel totally comfortable trying this 

stunning dish, knowing that it has Kelvin’s full seal of 

approval. To make it even more special, Kelvin has also 

chosen this dish as the range of warm flavours also portray 

his vibrant personality. He has put a lot of thought 

into this dish to hopefully create an unforgettable dining 

experience, while also showing us what it is that 

makes him who he is. 

This dish was designed to create a social atmosphere, 

one where you can share and discuss it with your 

friends and family, just like Kelvin encourages in his

Instinct delivers Birthday Win 

September’s birthday draw winner, 

Cor Jansen, member number 38249, 

is proof that sometimes it pays off to 

listen to your instinct. 

Mr Jansen was in the club on Thursday 

night, September 29, because he had a funny 

feeling that he was going to win something that 

night. He and his wife Tess attended the club 

for a nice meal before listening to the names 

get drawn from the barrel. 

But it did take some time for Mr Jansen’s 

hunch to turn into reality, as his was the fourth 

name drawn on the evening. The anticipation 

increased with every new name drawn, and Mr 

Jansen was lucky enough to win $2,000 for his 

attendance and patience. The win was even 

sweeter, he explained, as he and his wife visit 

the club for every birthday draw and other 

promotions, and have never won anything. It 

was a pleasant surprise, and both he and his 

wife walked away very happy. 

The Jansen’s have been saving their money 

for a trip overseas, so the $2,000 prize money 

has gone straight into their savings account.

Destiny’s Child Tribute 

Among the many hits on the charts in 

the late 90’s and early 2000’s were 

the popular singles of a trio of Divas 

known for their soulful voices and stunning 

performances. 

Destiny’s Child achieved great success during 

this time, and not only created a number of hits 

as a group, their time together also served as an 

excellent launching pad for all the members to 

branch off into their own solo careers. 

With hit songs such as Say My Name, 

Survivor and Bootylicious, the girls have managed 

to create catchy music that still gets 

crowds up and dancing now. However, since 

they are no longer performing together, it’s 

hard to party along to the songs in a concertlike 

atmosphere with just a CD. 

This is where our special Destiny’s Child 

Tribute show comes in. These girls are fabulous 

singers and performers, and effortlessly 

bring all our favourite Destiny’s Child songs to 

life. To make it all the more tempting, the 

group’s headline singer is our very own local 

Melaanie, who has regularly hit the stage with 

her group Brown Suga. 

The girls call themselves The Destiny’s 

Child Experience, and they definitely deserve 

that title. Not only are their vocals spectacularly 

similar to the real deal, their performance 

brings it all together for an unforgettable concert 

experience. 

The Destiny’s Child Experience will be 

coming to the Redcliffe Leagues Club on 

November 25. This will be a free show, available 

to all our members and guests with entertainment 

starting from 7pm in our Legends 

Lounge. 

There is a dancefloor right in front of the 

stage where they will be performing, so make 

sure to wear comfy shoes, because these girls 

will definitely be inspiring you to get up and 

dance along. 

Christmas talents

With the festive season fast approaching 

we’re putting plans in place now to ensure 

we’re fully prepared come December. 

One of the biggest days in December, 

apart from the 25th of course, is the day we 

hold our Dolphins Carols by Candlelight. 

This highly anticipated annual event is significant 

for many of its features. 

One of our favourites is that we have a 

variety of talent performing, including one 

discovered right here at the club. 

For anyone who needs a refresher, we’re 

referring to the winner of our very own 

Dolphins Voice Your Talent competition. 

This competition always takes on a festive 

theme at this time of year to help us discover 

the very best of our local talent and give 

them the gift of a chance to show their talent 

to a captive audience. 

With this in mind, we are making sure to 

search thoroughly for the best person for 

the job. There are a series of warm ups, 

heats and finals all taking place before the 

best of the best battle it out in the grand 

final. 

The lucky winner will then perform at the 

carols, giving them the chance to show everyone 

what they’ve got. 

But that’s not all. First, second and third 

place all receive cash prizes of $1,000, $500 

and $200 respectively for their efforts and 

bravery. 

The warm ups are already complete, with 

that stage of the competition having 

wrapped up on October 11. The heats have 

been running from October 18 and will run 

until November 22. 

Contestants lucky enough to make it 

through these rounds will then perform in 

the semi finals on November 29 and 

December 6, with the grand final to be held 

on December 13.

All songs from the heats onwards must be 

Christmas songs, and dressing the part is

entrants must be 18 and over.

LEARN TO SWIM WITH DOLPHINS 

Royal Lifesaving Australia have just 

released some statistics which continue 

to remind us of the dangers of children 

around water. In the past year 280 

Australian’s died as a result of 

drowning and 66 of them occurred 

here in your state of Queensland. 23% 

of these drownings occurred at the 

beach but the surprising figure is the 

14% of drowning fatalities that resulted 

from a child simply falling into water 

and not knowing how to get to the 

edge. Just recently a very young 

student, who is enrolled in our Learn to 

Swim program, fell into the pool at a 

friend’s house fully clothed. They were 

able to swim to the side of the pool 

safely. It is known that introducing 

your child to the water at the earliest 

age possible will help reduce the risk 

or drowning substantially. 

Dolphins has created a program 

called Aqua Rhyme Time that invites 

mums and dads to bring their baby 

along from as early as 8 weeks of age. 

Parents are in the water with their little 

one with an instructor singing rhymes, 

splashing water and instilling water 

familiarisation in a safe and fun 

environment. From 6 months of age 

babies can then move into Bubs 

swimming classes. This is where 

Dolphins Learn to Swim education 

really takes off and where water safety 

and swimming skills are introduced. 

Learn to Swim at Dolphins is not all 

about stroke correction. 

Here with us your child learns how 

to jump safely into water, swim with 

wet clothes and shoes, hold their breath 

underwater and how to get to the edge 

of the pool if they fall in. During safety 

week each term we teach students not 

only to save themselves but other 

family members as well. So together, 

let’s reduce that 14%!

program instructors are continuing to 

develop and grow with regular training.

Congratulations to all who attended the recent 

Grand Final using the Old Boys bus. Everyone 

I speak to says what a great day it was. So 

everyone that came along, give yourself a pat 

on the back for making everyone else’s day a 

fantastic experience. 

Our trip to Wynnum for the Lawn Bowls 

Derby verses the Wynnum Old Boys resulted 

in Wynnum retaining the Ron Pascoe shield 

for the third year in a row. We might have to 

bring in pre-season training before next year’s 

battle, or recruit someone that can actually 

play. Despite the result all the boys and a 

couple of ladies had a great time. I’d like to 

send out a thank you to Ron Olson for 

organising the bus and co-ordinating with the 

Wynnum crew to make the day so enjoyable. 

Our Annual Dinner is on Saturday 12 

November. There are still a few seats left if 

you’d like to join us for an entertaining night. 

The ticket cost covers a buffet dinner and a 

drinks package of tap beer, wine and soft 

drinks. Our AGM is on Sunday 11 December. 

Anyone interested in running for committee 

positions should put their name forward as 

soon as possible. The kids Christmas tree will
