called women to preach, but
God made a believer out of
me, especially through
Evangelist Madelle T. Brown,
who had j ust graduated from
the Moody Bible I nstitute in
Chicago , I llinois. On
December 31, 1958, I
preached my trial sermon,
John 1:1-4. Subj ect: "Jesus is
the Word".
Sister Brown took me under
her wings. She was my
mentor and teacher. I
attended her Tuesday night
Bible study at Mt. Olive along
with my mother, aunt, and my
children.
As her Bible student, she
inspired me to commit to
memorizing scriptures. I have
passed this along to my Bible
students as well as a
passionate love for the word.
The concepts used in learning
the Bible whett my appetite
for knowledge and I was able
to earn a High School
diploma, BS in Elementary
Education, and a Master's
Degree in English as a
reading specialist.
Sister Brown taught that a
prayerful life will show
through by studying God's
word and worshipping Him
from your heart.
Her ministry has been a
blessing in my life. I am
grateful to God now and
forever.

I t was always a blessing to
hear of Mother Brown's
adventures and the many
miraculous ways that God
brought her out.
Her work in Africa made
history - walking away from
an airplane crash, the 20
mile trek on foot through the
j ungle, the tuberculosis she
had, but we never realized it,
the infected leg they wanted
to amputate in the hospital
where no one spoke English,
the many narrow escapes in
those war torn villages, and
the great favor of God that
made a way for her when all
doors were closed.

Elder James R. Caldwell
Allow me to mention my
husband who once served as
the Pastor of Athens in
Cleveland, Ohio.
He was called the "Roaring
Lion of the North". He was
truly a Prayer Warrior!
He could sing, play a trumpet,
and could get up out of a
deep sleep preaching.
He loved his congregation
and was involved in the
community in which he
volunteered his services,
which brought young people
in from one of the shcools in
Cleveland.
He was a family man and
