Regional Director and the staff for their commitment to<br />

enhance the dignity of the plantation community.<br />

• Seven students from the Plantations who gained best<br />

results to enter Universities in the year 2014 were<br />

recognized and awarded.<br />

• 40 Ladies, Child Development Officers (CDOs) were<br />

awarded Diploma Certificates<br />

• As accredited by the Ministry of Child Development<br />

and Women Affairs the <strong>PHDT</strong> conduct Diploma<br />

programmes in Child Development, Pre School<br />

Education and Management. 100 CDOs have<br />

completed the Diploma in year 2014 and out of this<br />

40 received their Diploma Certificates.<br />

• Staff members who depicted sportsmanship at the<br />

Carrom competition and showcased their talent in the<br />

drawing competition.<br />

The Chairman, Mr. V. Puththirasigamoney addressed the<br />

audience mentioning the present activities and objectives<br />

of the <strong>PHDT</strong>, which helps to continuous enhancement of<br />

the quality of life of the Plantation Community.<br />

The Chief Guest His Excellency Y.K. Sinha, appreciated<br />

<strong>PHDT</strong> for welfare work and wished every success to<br />

continue the good work in his speech.<br />

The Director Finance, Mr. R.Y. Kulatunga proposed the<br />

Vote of thanks and finally, all distinguish guests were<br />

invited for tea.<br />

Career development and Rewards for staff<br />

members<br />

Providing opportunity, the Administration and HRD division<br />

always shows the career path to the staff members<br />

enhancing their job skills and supporting to build expertise<br />

in their job positions. Accordingly staff members can go<br />

up the ladder achieving their career goals as; trainees to<br />

permanent positions, Junior positions to Senior positions<br />

and also Clerical positions to Managerial positions etc.<br />

Development of skills and competency<br />

of staff members<br />

All employees were provided opportunity to participate<br />

for both in-house & out-door training programmes,<br />

workshops etc., and except for the orientation &<br />

awareness programmes for new recruits, conducted<br />

training programmes/workshops for all staff in main<br />

office & regions to develop their positive attitudes and self<br />

Motivation.<br />

Arranged a workshop on Social Dialogue & Workplace<br />

Cooperation giving opportunity to staff members to build<br />

awareness on the historical back ground of industrial<br />

relations, Importance of industrial relation and benefits<br />

for the employer, employee and the Nation, Concept of<br />

Social Dialogue, Benefits of Social Dialogue etc. which are<br />

very useful to develop their positive attitudes in their work<br />

life.<br />

Drivers were directed to a Workshop enabling them to<br />

improve their skills on rules and regulations of Road safety<br />

and basic technical skills on vehicles.<br />

Conducted Programme on Positive Attitudes to<br />

Motivate and refresh with work culture and enabling<br />

them to understand that how they are important to<br />

the organisation and team spirit effects for customer<br />

satisfaction.<br />

Higher Management also has been given opportunities to<br />

involve with the overseas programmes enriching overall<br />

knowledge related their job functions.<br />

Staff welfare<br />

Welfare activities were conducted for all staff introduced<br />

by the Admin. & HRD division during the year.<br />

Provided an opportunity for all staff to show their talent in<br />

the Drawing competition & the Carrom tournament and<br />

were awarded at the annual award ceremony.<br />

Held annual celebrations and commemorations;<br />

Dawn of the year, National Independents day, International<br />

Women’s day, Children’s day, Food day, ‘Dayata Sevana’<br />

etc. which were declared by the Government, and also<br />

Sinhala & Tamil New year, Religious ceremonies of<br />

Wesak, Poson, Pongal & Christmas etc., at the <strong>PHDT</strong><br />

main office and regions.<br />
