In her debut half-marathon, Kipyego won the 2014 NYC Half in 1:08:31, setting what was an<br />

event record at the time. She returned the next year and placed third. Kipyego has earned<br />

silver medals over 10,000 meters at two global championships: first at the 2011 IAAF World<br />

Championships, and then the following summer at the London 2012 Olympics. Seven days<br />

after medaling in London, she added a fourth-place finish in the 5000 meters. Last summer,<br />

she finished fifth in the 10,000 meters at the IAAF World Championships, running 31:44.42.<br />

This year, she recorded a season-best 14:43.98 for 5000 meters at the Prefontaine Classic<br />

in May.<br />

Currently training with the Oregon Track Club Elite, Kipyego graduated from Texas Tech<br />

University in 2009 with a degree in nursing. As a Red Raider, she won nine NCAA championships,<br />

including three consecutive titles in cross country. She is married to her former<br />

Texas Tech teammate, Kevin Chelimo, who recorded a top-10 finish at the 2015 TCS New<br />

York City Marathon.<br />
