Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, Abdirahman became a U.S. citizen in 2000 and graduated<br />

from the University of Arizona in 2001. He is a four-time Olympian, having represented<br />

Team USA in the 10,000 meters in 2000, 2004, and 2008, and he earned a spot on the<br />

Olympic marathon team in 2012. He’s competed in the New York City Marathon four times,<br />

recording three top-ten finishes. He also set his lifetime half-marathon best of 1:00:29 in<br />

New York City, finishing as the runner-up to Haile Gebrselassie at the 2007 NYC Half.<br />

Abdirahman last raced in New York City at the 2015 UAE Healthy Kidney 10K in Central<br />

Park, finishing seventh in 29:20. In June of this year, he was eighth at the B.A.A. 10K in<br />

Boston, running 28:39. He followed that with a fourth-place 29:24 at the Peachtree Road<br />

Race (10K) in Atlanta on July 4. As he was rounding into form for the TCS New York City<br />

Marathon, he ran a season-best 1:02:46 for the half-marathon at the Great North Run in<br />

England on September 11.<br />
