As the second American men’s finisher in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon in 2015,<br />

Pike earned a spot on Team USA for the Rio 2016 Paralympics, his second Paralympic<br />

Games. A month after placing seventh overall in Chicago, Pike recorded an eighth-place finish<br />

at the TCS New York City Marathon, a massive improvement from finishing 20th the year<br />

prior. In Rio, he competed in the heats of the 1500 meters and placed 10th in the marathon,<br />

finishing in 1:30:13.<br />

Prior to Rio, Pike had represented the United States at the London 2012 Paralympics, racing<br />

in the 1500 meters, 5000 meters, and the marathon. Two years later, he was back on Team<br />

USA for the winter Paralympics in Sochi, competing in Nordic skiing.<br />

Pike suffered a spinal-cord injury in December 1999 at 13 after he was accidentally shot<br />

during a deer-hunting trip in Virginia. He was introduced to wheelchair racing by Ironman<br />

triathlete Carlos Moleda, a legendary wheelchair racer. Originally from Park Rapids, MN,<br />

Pike attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and to this day continues to<br />

train under the Illini track and field team under coach Adam Bleakney.<br />
