Crisis Support
KEPS provides a crisis support service
for schools. This work is part of the core
work provided for schools by the Local
Authority and it is not traded. In the days
immediately after an incident we aim to
mobilise the resources available in the
school, and to stimulate and encourage
positive coping strategies through joint
work in the immediate aftermath of an
event. We also work with staff in school
to identify individuals who may need
further long term support.
Where there is a need for longer term
support, referral to an appropriate
agency is made as necessary. Additional
support from KEPS beyond the initial
crisis response is available through
traded services. This can include
Cognitive Behavioural Approaches, or
other longer term support for individuals
or groups.
Our crisis support contact numbers are;
Office hours (9am-5pm): 03000 410100
Out of office hours: 03000 410101
The service also has a range of ways
to support schools to be prepared for
a critical incident. This work is traded
and can include staff development and
support in the following areas:
• grief and loss
• crisis support for school staff
• the impact of childhood trauma, often
particularly relevant to unaccompanied
minors and refugees
• bespoke support for groups of schools
who would like to work together
An extensive range of supporting
resources is available free to schools
in Kent.
