Candles for Cancer
Fundraiser a huge success
Continued from Front Page...
Mike decided to hold the
event as a night run and to
incorporate a Halloween
theme.
This proved extremely popular
with many folks dressing
up.
'Many vampires, witches,
ghosts, clowns, and zombies
were seen out on the course,'
said Mike.
The winning costume for Men
was Dudley Whittal (zombi),
and the ladies winner was
Zimkitha Smith (Psycho
Nurse).
The winning family was the
Cloete Clan. Lisa Monaghan
was the best dressed Witch.
Many others won prizes and
lucky draws .
The event was a huge success
with R10 000 raised on
the night. Karen was handed
a whopping R14 000 at the
end of the evening and was
absolutely speechless .
'This money will be used to
pay off outstanding doctors’
bills and to assist with the
futures scans, doctors’ visits,
chemotherapy etc as her
Medical Aid has run out,' said
Mike.
'This will go a long way to ease
the burden on the family. A
further R2000 has been
raised via bank transfers from
old Kingites and friends So
in total R16 000 was raised,'
said Mike.
Mike said he was overwhelmed
by the outstanding
turnout with about 150 runners
pitching and is excited
about next years event .
'This event will be an annual
affair with a new recipient of
the funds raised every year,'
said Mike.
He thanked all involved for
making the event a success.
Lamb souvlaki
Ingreidents
1kg lamb cubed
4 garlic cloves minced (2 teaspoons)
Juice and zest of 2 lemons
1/2 cup olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
Black pepper to taste Pinch of
oreganum
Method
Add all of the marinade ingredients
to a large bowl and whisk to combine.
Add the lamb and marinate for about
1-2 hours. if you are going to do
them on the braai, skewer the
pieces onto wooden/bamboo
skewers that have been soaked in
water for about 10 minutes and braai
for 5-8 minutes.
On the stove top, cook the pieces in
batches on a medium to hot heat in
a pan for 5-8 minutes.
Side dishes to serve with it are light
and easy. Sliced cucumber with dill,
lemon juice, salt and pepper to taste
and some crumbled feta cheese, or
Serve with cucumber slices mixed
with plain yoghurt, salt and pepper
to taste. Quantities to your liking,
you want to coat the cucumber
slices lightly. A nice alternative is to
seed the cucumber and grate it, use
a little more yoghurt, as well as a
squeeze of lemon juice. Serve warm
pita bread on the side.
