Protect retirees pensions, To many public and private<br />

pension funds are under funded. , Veteran rights helping<br />

Michigan vets get proper care, To listen to the people of my<br />

district and do what is best for them.<br />

Education: What measures do you support/propose to<br />

achieve improved educational outcomes for students<br />

and for school districts?<br />

Stop Common Core. Safer schools adding resource officers<br />

to keep the children safe. Cut down on mandated testing so<br />

the teachers can have more freedom to teach and not just<br />

teach the test. Cut the fraud and wasteful spend and give it<br />

back to the students. Get the parents more involved in the<br />

students education.<br />

Modernize our infrastructure: We need additional investment<br />

in roads, bridges and water systems. We must make it<br />

a budget priority. We must also revise the funding formula<br />

to prioritize local roads. Make Michigan a Top 10 State in<br />

Education: modernize our funding calculation, partner with<br />

higher education and business, 4 year preschool for all<br />

kids, enact charter school reform. Modernize mental health<br />

service delivery and funding - consolidate common administrative<br />

functions including audits and reporting, regionalize<br />

services, improve private care provider accountability,<br />

increase direct provider worker wages.<br />

Expand early childhood services for at risk 0-3 children.<br />

Provide 4 year preschool services for all low income families.<br />

Improve child care options for families. Enact Charter<br />

School Reforms - certificate of need, improve accountability<br />

for schools and authorizers. Redesign our funding calculations<br />

to match the Education Study Commission’s recommendations.<br />

Reduce class size, recruit and compensate high<br />

performing educators. Provide more wrap around services<br />

to support at-risk students and their families.<br />

Qualifications / Experience: My entire life has been<br />

dedicated to public service. As a School Board member,<br />

Consultant, Community Services Director for a local municipality,<br />

mom and volunteer I’ve made a commitment<br />

to the people of our community. I’ve been involved at all<br />

levels, listening to their concerns, fighting passionately<br />

for them and been an independent voice locally. We need<br />

this and fresh perspectives in Lansing.<br />

Small government, which is constitutionally limited, must<br />

always be our main goal. It is the type of government which<br />

our founding fathers intended for us to have, and is the<br />

type of government that does the most to promote peace,<br />

prosperity and freedom in our society. It is adaptable to<br />

all levels of government. Having said this, I choose as my<br />

first legislative priority to downsize our state government.<br />

I would go through checking for excess, and write bills to<br />

eliminate it. My second legislative priority is to simplify<br />

our state tax code. My third legislative priority is to make it<br />

easier to start new businesses.<br />

HHH District 38 HHH<br />

Jobs! Jobs! Jobs! We must focus on creating high-paying jobs<br />

by maintaining a business-friendly environment through<br />

lower taxes, by streamlining government bureaucracies<br />

and by reducing unnecessary and job-killing government<br />

regulations. 2. Economic Development: I believe in developing<br />

equitable policies that promote free enterprise solutions<br />

and business growth. 3. Increase access to health-related<br />

services for Older Adults should be a budget priority. More<br />

than 1.9 million Michiganians, over 60 years old, deserve<br />

our utmost respect, gratitude and support for their many<br />

contributions in our local communities.<br />

Education, Infrastructure, Jobs/Economy. We need to<br />

ensure schools are fully funded and return local control.<br />

Our children’s education must be our priority. Our infrastructure<br />

is a mess. Voters made it clear with Proposal One<br />

they disagreed with Lansing’s road funding ideas yet they<br />

approved a similar plan disregarding our vote. We need to<br />

look at reducing the fuel tax, funding through the current<br />

sales tax, vehicle weight, as well as what works in other<br />

states. Economically, we’re losing the middle class, our<br />

state’s backbone. Tax relief to the middle class, jobs, fiscal<br />

responsibility/accountability are critical.<br />

Education is a product which is strictly of the mind, and<br />

needs a finite amount of resources to achieve. Think about<br />

it. Most of the learning that a student does is a direct result<br />

of reading, studying, listening to class lectures and often<br />

some hands-on laboratory experience. This requires only so<br />

much financing, and we are already spending about half of<br />

our state budget on it. Therefore we reach a point to where<br />

it does no good to throw more money at it. The biggest<br />

problem in education is a motivational problem. When a<br />

student attends class who really wants to learn, there is<br />

almost nothing that they can’t do.<br />

I believe in high educational standards that allows us to<br />

hold our schools, administrators and teachers measurably<br />

accountable – through testing, classroom observations and<br />

a focus on making sure our teachers “connect” with our<br />

students. We need these high standards to get our students<br />

career and college ready. However, these high standards<br />

are only good for our educational system if curriculum<br />

decisions are made LOCALLY – by our community School<br />

Boards – and not by county, state or federal government<br />

agencies. Let’s be honest. Top-down government doesn’t<br />

work – Washington D.C is a great example of that.<br />

Stop raiding the School Aid fund and make district funding<br />

more equitable statewide. Return local control to districts<br />

- School Boards, administrators, teachers and parents<br />

know kids best. State legislation on funding, evaluations,<br />

3rd grade retention, the “gag order” law, etc. have been<br />

appalling. Re-evaluate Common Core and statewide testing.<br />

Hold charter schools accountable to the same standards<br />

as public schools and stop using taxpayer money with no<br />

accountability. Fund vocational programs - not all are college<br />

bound. Make sure our students and teachers have the<br />

resources needed to compete in a global world.
