MY TOWN
Our ongoing series where we look at various Indian cities through
the eyes of SpiceJet staffers. This month, Sreeshna Keeripurath,
Senior Cabin Crew based in Kochi, holds forth on Kannur
Connection to the city: I am originally
from Kannur. I have been born and
brought up here.
Best thing about Kannur: People
here are aware of the importance of
education. It is a beautiful town with
hills, forest, fresh air and beaches.
plenty of tourists. The Thalassery Fort is
There are many pristine beaches here
also an important tourist draw. Kannur
including Kerala’s one and only drive-
Beach and Ezhimala Hill are known for
in beach, the 4 km long Muzhappilangad.
their scenic beauty. Another hill station,
Being a cabin crew it’s a part of our life
Paithalmala, is 1370 m above sea level
to live in another city which we don’t
and is the highest geographic peak in
belong to. But when you come back
Kannur. It has become a favourite spot
here somehow the air you breath is so
for nature enthusiasts, photographers,
familiar. That is why I love Kannur.
trekkers and leisurely visitors.
Favourite eating places: I am a foodie.
Recommended places near the
Kannur is very famous for seafood and
city: Land and water have struck an
biryani. Thalassery Chicken Biriyani is
extraordinary kinship at Thusharagiri
my favourite dish. The best restaurant in
Falls. The nearby area is also a trekker’s
the city is Rara Avis, which is known all
delight. Trekkers start early morning
Clockwise from above: Fort St Angelo;
Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach; fishing
boats docked next to a jetty in Kannur
over for its wide variety of non-veg food,
particularly seafood dishes.
from the second waterfall and climb up
through the beautifully dense evergreen
forests teeming with exotic birds and
Best places to hang out: The
animals to reach Vythiri in Wayanad
Payyambalam Beach is one of the
district by the evening.
most beautiful beaches in Kerala and
is ideal to spend evenings at,
Kannur when compared to other cities:
irrespective of the season.
I have stayed in Chennai which is a
Local attractions: The St. Angelo Fort
in Kannur Cantonment, which was
constructed in 1505, is a symbol of
Portuguese architecture and attracts
metropolitan city. But wherever I go and
stay I won’t get the feeling that I get of
staying in Kannur. It’s entirely different.
You cannot find that peace of mind
anywhere else.
