THROUGH THE MYSTIC EYE
SADHGURU IS A YOGI, MYSTIC AND VISIONARY. AN INTERNATIONALLY-RENOWNED SPEAKER, SADHGURU’S WIT AND
PIERCING LOGIC PROVOKE AND WIDEN OUR PERCEPTION OF LIFE. IN THIS SERIES, SADHGURU ANSWERS QUESTIONS, AND
OFFERS REFRESHING PERSPECTIVES ON DIVERSE TOPICS
Above all, a nation is not a line on a
map. It’s an idea we must infuse into
people’s minds. It must burn as pride in
people’s hearts. To build pride, there has
to be history. No nation has as much
history as us. For example, the great
temples of Angkor were built by Tamil
kings. But no Tamil schoolchild even
reads a line about this. We study nothing
to be proud of.
Pride doesn’t drop from the skies. We
have to bring out the great things we’ve
done in the past – especially among
youth. We’ve fallen here and there, but
it’s time to bring that glory back.
India and Nepal are rich in spiritual
heritage, but we always look to the West.
Why?
Sadhguru:Everyone aspires for what is
successful. The West has become the
symbol of success today, which is why we
wear a jacket and tie even when it’s 38º C.
Unfortunately today, success has come to
mean only economic success, and
nothing else.
There’s no point struggling with it.
We have to come to terms with it and ride
it. If India becomes economically
successful, things Indian will become
more prominent.
Yoga is popular outside India, but it
has also led to all sorts of things like
f low yoga and hot yoga. How does this
affect the practice of yoga?
Sadhguru: There will always be
enterprise around whatever
becomes reasonably popular. We
shouldn’t be distracted or disturbed
by these. Are they teaching it
properly? There are question marks
about it. Some of them are teaching it
properly, some are not. These
manifestations are a result of the
commercial process. But it is only on
the surface that these distortions are
happening here and there. The core
of yoga is not disturbed in any way.
SpiceJet welcomes its passengers to ask Sadhguru questions on yoga, health, wellbeing and other topics of
general interest. Select questions will be answered in forthcoming issues. Please email your question to
