EVENTING Photos by Julia Shearwood Photography 11th/12th June 2016 Speetley One Day Event A few weeks after running their very successful British Showjumping Senior 3 Day Extravaganza Show, on the weekend of 11th and 12th of June, Speetley Equestrian Centre demonstrated their flexibility within equestrian disciplines, by hosting their first ever British Eventing One Day Events. The fact that the events ran so smoothly from start to finish, paid testament to the organisation skills of the management and staff, at this delightful Equestrian Centre in north east Derbyshire. With the considerable encouragement, advice and help of officials and members of British Eventing, a huge group of volunteers were recruited to perform the various tasks, which need to be done. Although the weekend’s weather was not as kind as one would have ideally hoped for, with mist early on and heavy rain at times, it nevertheless did not dampen the enthusiasm of the competitors. Over the two days, more 600 took part in very well contested classes, ranging from 80 cms to 100 cms. As well as being a delight for the riders, the rolling Derbyshire countryside at this location, lends itself very well for spectators to follow the progress of the competitors, with up to 10 obstacles being visible from the top of the hill. All in all, a most satisfactory and encouraging BE debut for Speetley EC, which has consolidated its place on the list of top equestrian venues in this country. We eagerly look forward to seeing their future plans to grow and prosper interest and participation in equestrian sports.
