A panel of judges – comprised of refuge staff and experienced photographers – will select this year’s contest winners. The winners will be announced during the refuge’s annual Conservation Film Festival (March 3-5, 2017). Hunt’s Photo, a contest co-sponsor, will once again provide the prizes for winners in the various contest categories. The winning contest entries will be placed on exhibit in the refuge visitor center for the next year. Contest participants may submit up to two prints. A $5 application fee will cover one or two entries. Maximum allowable print size is 8” x 10”. Prints can either be mailed to or dropped off at the refuge visitor center, seven days per week, between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. The visitor center is located at 6 Plum Island Turnpike, Newburyport, MA, 01950. All prints must be presented in a white matte. We need your help to collect some exciting prizes. Please contribute a basket of goodies with a regular retail value of at least $50. It can include your own products or other fun items related to a specific theme. Baskets can be gifts for Christmas, Hanukah or New Year’s. They might contain the tools to start a new hobby or keep a resolution. If you are unable to donate a complete basket, consider donating a gift card for our popular gift card tree. NOTE: Because the baskets will be on display in the Library for four weeks, we cannot accept donations of tobacco, alcohol or perishable items. All baskets will be on display (along with your organization’s name) at the Rowley Public Library from November 19 to December 17. Donations are due November 15. However, for those struggling to make ends meet, it can be an especially difficult time. To help clients in the nine local communities it serves, Pettengill House is now accepting community food drives and market gift card donations to support our Annual Thanksgiving Meals Basket Program which will be held on Friday, November 18th. In addition to food drives of non-perishable items, we are kindly requesting donors consider donating gift cards to local markets to assist us with the purchase of perishable Thanksgiving meal “fixings”. The following items are currently “most needed” for Thanksgiving meals baskets: boxed stuffing, canned gravy, canned vegetables, canned fruit, baking goods and condiments. Thanksgiving donations are greatly appreciated and best if received by Monday Nov 14th. Additional “most needed” items for our weekly food pantry include children’s healthy lunch box snacks and toiletries/personal care items.
